Junior Hurlers continue good form

JHC-C: St Sylvesters 2-12 Parnell 0-8 (Sunday 26th April Broomfield) Weather was good, the pitch was very good and the hurling was excellent. For the 2nd day in succession we were treated to a great display by Syls hurlers. This time it was the turn of the Juniors who picked up where the Seniors left off with a display of fast, determined hurling. Bualla bos for Greg and Danny as the junior hurling has come on a lot this year.

Minor footballers win a tight one

MFL D2 A late Luke Troy point gave us the minimum margin and a good win in a very competitive game. There was a great crowd there to see a Brynn and Luke inspired drive and a few other handy forwards.

Nigel doing the business for Offaly

Nice to see our old buddy Nigel Dunne leading the resurgence in Offaly with 1-03 in the League4 Final on Saturday. Niggy put in a lot of good shifts for Syls over the years.

Brilliant win for Senior Hurlers

SHC B Gr2 St Sylvesters 3-13 St Kevins 1-11 An outstanding display all through in a very entertaining Senior Hurling Championship game on a beautiful Saturday evening. I think we led all through but never by much against a Kevins team we had never before beaten. Our defense was immense in this one, Anthony makig a string of saves, a young fullback line of Brendán, Conor and Derek Morris putting their bodies on the line several times and never leaving Anthony exposed, Kev Clarke, Dave McElligott ad Daragh equally committed in the half line, McElligott making one particularly brave block late in the game in what many felt was a man of the match performance.

Skerries not so Scarry

SKERRIES 1g5p, SYLS 5g18p Conviction, passion, determination and all round a electrifying display of free flowing football is the only way to describe this match. A sunny Monday evening in great weather conditions brought two attacking teams together with the syls minors coming out on top.

Junior B Hurlers win again

AHL9: St Finians 2-6 St Sylvesters 1-12 ( Ridgewood, Swords 20th April 2015) Another good win for this new adult team, 3 out of 3 by my reckoning but more importantly the team is becoming more self-sufficient each week and relying less on players doubling up.

Junior hurlers win a tight one at Drimnagh Castle

AHL6: Réalt Dearg 2-13 St Sylvesters 3-13. (Drimnagh Castle, Sunday 19th April) 3 points up a HT against a stiff enough breeze ( Syls 2-5 to 0-8), we felt that we could push on in the 2nd half but Syls never really grabbed the game by the scruff against a Réalt Dearg side that had quite a few very skillful players.

Senior hurlers lose at Raheny

AHL2 : Raheny 1-16 St Sylvesters 1-13. (St Annes, Saturday 18th April) After a sluggish start , Syls recovered well to go in at HT just 3 points down 1-6 to 1-9, Colm Byrne the chief scorer with 1-5. During the 2nd half, we had a mini purple patch with 3-in-a-row from play, the pick of which was a fine high catch and point from Simon and although we never dominated Syls found themselves just a point in arrears with 6 minutes to go and all to play for.

Tributes to Dave Billings

I see where Dave Billings has passed away. I was only chatting to him in Broomfield on Saturday evening he cycled out to watch the senior game, I was pucking on the same pitch and he stopped to chat and asked was I still playing away. He was even captured in one of the photos above the right shoulder of No 2. Always said hello, RIP. Hilary Murray-Hession

Dave Billings RIP - one of the great Dubs

Dublin GAA is shocked to hear the sudden passing of Dave Billings, St Vincents and Dublin stalwart of many years. As recently as last Saturday he was in Broomfield at our senior football game and we exchanged the usual pleasentaries - he had a dig at Pat and Dan (I stayed out of his range) as he cycled by. Anybody who ever kicked or pucked a ball in Dublin will have a fond memory of Dave Billings and we are much the poorer for his passing. The lads at St Sylvesters would like to pay our condolences to Dave's family and friends, he was a great character.

Syls minors give boden a malahiding

st sylvesters 3-15 v ballyboden st endas 0-0 I'll credit Keith with the headline, you may be sure Boden have and will give us the same from time to time. Monday night in broomfield brought ballyboden to the heart of sylvesters home ground and this time it was bodens hearts broken,it started on the whistle with syls winning the first throw in and that set the tone for the night as syls put on a majestic display of fast attacking football and hard defending,
