Minor Girls Top Team North of Liffey

St Sylvesters Minor girls became the top team North of the Liffey with one game to go in this years Minor Division One League. They have beaten all of the four other North Dublin Div 1 teams Fingallians, Clontarf, Na Fianna, and last night Castleknock's A team. Last nights game V Castleknock A was played on a nice but windy evening in Broomfield.

 Syls girls won the toss

and played with the wind in the first half. With scores from Graine McGinty

1-1, Emer Treacy 0-2 and Emma Lynch 0-1 the Syls. girls were even with

Castleknock in the first Half Syls. 1-4 Castleknock 2-1. Castleknock's

keeper also made some outstanding saves in the first half. Levi McGrattan

standing in for Syls in goal was also very good.

Level at half time for Syls. it looked as though it might be an up hill

battle in the second half. However this Syls. Minor team have made an art

out of working hard and defending against a strong wind in the second half.

They did the same two weeks ago against Na Fianna. The defending from Niamh

Harney, Aoife O'Flynn, Lucia Hughes, Leah Harrold, Lauren Hughes & Kim

White was outstanding in the second half. At times they looked a bit like

Tyrone in Croke Park V the Dubs on Sunday. As Castleknock played the long

ball in there was always a Syls back appearing from nowhere to pick up the

loose ball. It was a bit like playing with six sweepers. Against the wind

Syls Girls held a very good Castleknock Team scoreless in the second half.

Against the wind Syls also managed to score on the break. Emer Treacy got

the first point followed after a tough 15 minutes by a Ciara Lynch goal.

Ciara was also outstanding at midfield fighting for everything and never

giving up. Louise Ryan also put in a huge fighting performance in the

middle. Emma Lynch added another point making it Syls 2-6 Castleknock A 2-1

(final score). In truth every one of the players on the night including

subs were outstanding. Declan Hetherton mentioned Aine McDonnell after the

game. Emma Sullivan & Lisa Murphy also put in a big amount of work. Ciara

Cummins also made a welcome comeback last night.

With one game to go V Templeogue Synge Street away next week Syls could

still mathematically win or be runner up in this League. However it is very

likely that Kilmacud Crokes will win it with Ballyboden as runner up. Syls

have a good chance of third place in Dublin. Next Monday Syls will be

missing Emer Treacy who has been playing with a hand injury all year. She

is going for an operation on Wednesday and will be out for 8 weeks. We wish

her the best of luck. Emer is a bit like our Alan Brogan. She is a play

maker and distributes the ball to all the forwards unselfishly as well as

taking her own scores. We look forward to having her back for the

Championship in September. It was also great to see Emer's brother Carl who

had not been well back helping with nets and doing umpire. He has been with

us from the start at U10 in 2005.

We also wish the best of luck to our Captain Ciara Lynch and Niamh Harney

who will be involved with the Dublin Minors in the Leinster Championship

Final.
