Ladies and gentlemen, he seems to be at every match, juvenile and adult.

He never misses the senior team and some would say he gets grumpy when they lose – but, of course, he may not be the only one.!

He has a virtual encyclopaedic knowledge of all the players in the Club. He talks to everyone and is comfortable with everyone, young and old. He smiles even when he is disagreeing with you!

With a keen interest in hurling, he travels to home and away matches to see his beloved Dublin hurlers.

He has a great track record of service to St Sylvester’s club. He has been involved at Executive committee level, he has served on the bar committee and the juvenile committees. He has been Club delegate on county games committees and he seems to have managed the under 16 hurling team for ever.
He is a GAA man to his core with all the passion that goes with it. Even while he worked in California he got involved with the local GAA there.

He started his GAA life with Good Counsel Drimagh, and still talks fondly of his time there.

St Sylvester’s has what some people believe and with some justification the best GAA website in the country. Virtually every game and every event is reported on comprehensively and on a timely basis. If you want to know what is happening then www.stsylvesters.ie is the place to look. Our web site receives many ‘hits’ each year from outside Ireland testimony to its value to our former members and friends overseas.

Our Club man of the year has invested a huge amount of time and effort consistently over the years in developing and keeping our web site up to date and he is not shy to express his views but always in a measured way. This combined with his keen eye for the photo opportunity ensures that our Club’s website is the envy of others.

Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the Executive Committee, I am delighted to announce that the award of Club Person of the Year 2011 goes to Mel McIntyre.
