U15 hurlers reach Division 2 decider

Syls U15 hurlers played away to Ballinteer on Sunday last in the U15 hurling league Top 4 play off semi final. In what was a dogged encounter Syls U15 hurlers came out on top against a fine Ballinteer side by a scoreline of Syls 2 goals and 12 points to Ballinteer 1 goal and 12 points.

The Sylvesters boys have suffered a number of long term injuries this year and as a result both Daniel Murphy and Bryn Redmond had to sit out this game . On top of that Conor O'Byrne could not field due to illness.

Syls got off to a slow start and only for some sterling defending by Philip Ryan , Barry Crosse and Niall McCann in the full back line and half backs Jamie Kennedy , Eamonn McLoughney and Eoin Ryan Syls would have been in big trouble at half time . As it was we managed to go in at half time one point ahead.

In the second half our midfield of Daniel Denneher and Mikey Meaney got on top and with Luke Hughes now moving well we managed to creep ahead by the slimmest of margins.

Ciaran Murphy and Denis O Brien worked tirelessly and Brian Murray ( on loan from U13s and pressed into service ) Evan Walsh also put in good shifts .

Eoin Cooney was now starting to cause Ballinteer some problems when placed at the edge of the square and with Ballinteer having drawn level  a great goal near the end by Cathal Manning seemed to place Syls nicely for victory.

The boys fought valiantly right to the bitter end an excellent  performance in goals by Sean Drumm managed to keep Syls noses in front at the very end.

A serious injury to Philip Ryan ( completely accidental ) about 15 minutes to go saw Philip removed to hospital for treatment to a bad shoulder injury. We would all like to wish Philip a very speedy recovery.

From this it is onwards to the U15 hurling league final which will be played away to St Oliver Plunketts / Eoghan Ruadh on Sunday the 27th October which should be a big day for hurling in St Sylvesters .

In the meantime we have the matter of the Shield final on Sunday the 13th October to the same opponents ( again away at Plunketts )
