Intermediate Football Championship Grp2 Match 1 (14 April 17)

Match report from the the first match of the football championship group 2

Words by Ross Hazley

Full Time:  Syls 1-12 vs Boden 1-11

      • A hard fought victory saw Syls get over a strong Ballyboden side who beat them in AFL3 two weeks previous by the narrowest of margins.
      • An early goal following great inter play from Killian O’Flynn and Mark Hazley got Syls off to the perfect start but Boden fought hard to get themselves back into the match.                      T
      • he midfield battle proved a struggle in the first half with Boden picking up a lot of the breaking ball however Syls rallied early in the second half and the hard work from Kev O’Flynn, Gavin Wright, Fionn Carney, Niall McCann, Mark McCormack and Sean Daly proved pivotal in the battle for the middle third.
      • Syls defence held strong throughout with all performing to a high standard however following a long distance run half way through the second from one of Syls forwards (Who shall remain unnamed) to track a man and subsequent unforced error from that player allowed Boden to capitalise with a goal and bring the game back to a draw which put the pressure back on Syls.
      • There were scores back and forth during this stage but our strength off the bench proved to be the deciding factor providing  8 points .
      • A few words for Kev Morris in goals who made three great saves which boosted the team at important stages of the match and Barry Ryan who played a rugby final @3pm (Which he unfortunately lost) on the same day to then come and play an exceptional 45minutes with Syls @6pm.
      • The most notable factor for Syls was the confidence and team work that the team showed.
