15s through to Championship Final

U15F A C'ship SF The U15A footballers qualified for the clubs second U15A Championship Final in 2 years with a hard fought victory over a very well drilled Clontarf team. At times through the game the result looked like it was slipping away from us but goals came for us at exactly the right time to see us over the line. We trailed from almost the first minute until well in to the second half and at one stage in that second period we were 4 points down and going out as we seemed to have no answer to Clontarf’s sharp play.

But we got back in to the game with a well worked goal by Danny Taaffe after some hard work by Josh Bannon and then kicked on to open a gap and despite some serious late pressure from Clontarf we held on to get across the line by the minimum. Everyone on the team worked hard and there were a number of individual highlights from the assured goalkeeping of Simon Murphy, the tight marking of our full back line, the high fielding of Daragh McLoughney, the great first half move that saw Denis Smith rattle the ball to the net, Sean Gibson’s point that Dermot Connolly would have been proud of and the calmness of the backline, marshalled by Jack Boyne during a hectic finish. It was also great to see the spread of scorers.

The team and all involved would like to thank the huge Syls support which was very loud and apparent and had a big impact on the players going down the stretch. The final is on 6th November against Ballyboden, venue and time TBA and we would hope that a similar or bigger crowd will come along and shout us home.
