Both Minor Hurling teams had good wins
MHL D2 St Finbars 3-08 St Sylvesters 4-17 Great win away in the Boggies against a Finbars team that never gave up but each time they scored we went straight down and responded. The defense again were great, Liam Foley put his body on the line in goals, Philip held a big lively full forward, Ciaran and Barry in the corners very tught and brave, Eamon had a great battle with the opposing centre forward. Up front Luke Hughes gave a class display of point scoring and Sean Graham also very impressive. I heard the B team had a single point win at Ballyboden and sit third in the table, great stuff lads.
Syls Minor "A" hurling away to Naomh Fionbarra Our minor hurlers travelled to Finbars on Sunday last to play the home side who were doing quite well in the Minor hurling League . We , ourselves , having suffered only one defeat ( and that unluckily at home to Fingallians on the leagues opening day ) . The Syls boys opted to play against the breeze and opened the game with a quick score after 3 minutes with a 45 metre free by Daniel Murphy . The Syls boys continued to dominate the game throughout the first half so they piled on the scores . Halfway through the first half a very well taken point by Eoin Ryan seemed to settle the Syls boys .A dominant Syls 15 were superbly led by Daniel Murphy in the middle of the field who stood out in the first half with a couple of very good scores . Alongside Daniel was Jamie Kennedy who it must be said is having a superb season . A terrific point by a very hard working Evan Walsh seems to dent Naomh Fionbarras spirit . A couple of fine goals ( one each by Eoin Cooney and a fine ground shot by Sean Graham saw the Syls boys go in at half time with a commanding lead . At half time it was Naomh Fionbarra 0-5 St Sylvesters 2-10 . The second half started off as the first half finished with Syls dominating from the off .A sustained period of pressure from the home team led to a well struck shot heading for the goal only for Liam Og Foley to throw himself in the way of the ball to effect a brilliant save . Apart from that save and a couple of others Liam Og delivered some excellent puck outs that were a hallmark of Syls attacking presence. This really was a significant performance from a very good and well drilled hurling team . Some really good individual performances in particular the full back line of Barry Crosse , Philip Ryan and Kieran Murphy who were well fronted by Daniel Deneher , Mikey Meaney and a superb Eamon McLoughney . The forwards were well represented by Cathal Manning , Brian Walsh and Evan Walsh . Also we had Luke Hughes who had a superb game with a tally of 5 points from play . The Syls boys now go into the " Leaving Cert " break at the top of the table which is no mean achievement . We were missing Denis O Brien as a result of illness and we would all like to wish Denis , who has been a stalwart of this team for the last 10 years or so , a very speedy recovery and we look forward to having you back on the pitch with us soon .
