Brave U14 hurlers reach Feile Final

The U14 hurlers battled bravely in the Div5 Feile Final in Parnell Park but were well beaten by a bigger stronger Whitehall team. We played some very good hurling and it was great to see so many of our senior players lending support. Congratulations to Whitehall and thanks for the nice gesture of a guard of honour to our lads after our presentation.

U14 Hurling Feile 2016 - We had a fantastic weekend of hurling with twenty two players taking part. All of the skills of the game were displayed to the highest standard. The commitment, enthusiasm, drive was all there and the lads had to ‘dig deep’ to win the semi- final. It was their fourth game of the day, one hundred and sixty minutes of hurling.

We got the day off to a good start v Ballyboden St Endas and fired in a couple of early goals to win the game 6-4 to 1-3. Our second game v Castleknock was all going according to plan and we had five points from play without reply. Goals from Castleknock early in the second half put us on the back foot. We battled it out to the end and lost by one point Syls 1-9 Castleknock 3-4. Our third game of the morning was against hosts St Peregrines, we had to win this one to qualify for the semi-final. Down nine points at half time, the pressure was on to deliver. Two quick goals, a massive second half performance and we won the game 4-6 to 4-3.We now had our place in the semi-final v Lucan Sarsfields.

Playing on a very large pitch and with tired legs we faced into our fourth game. It was another battle, our defence was rock solid and we conceded no goals. The mid field worked hard and delivered in good ball and we came out on top 2-2 to 0-5. A well-deserved place in the final in Parnell Park v Whitehall.

We knew from the outset that this was not going to be easy, Whitehall were a bigger team and it stood to them. We worked tirelessly to the end and gave it everything we had. The final score was 3-11 to 1-8.

A big thanks to the parents for your support all weekend. Thanks to all our supporters who travelled to Peregrines and Parnell Park. The team really appreciated it.

Above all, a huge thanks to a fantastic group of young players. They provided fantastic entertainment and excitement, all in a sporting manner. Well done.
