After a week of intensive practicing of overhead kicks, solos and "heading" of Sliothars the time had come to hold the inaugural Syls U10 FreeStyle Hurling competition. The competition was the idea of guest hurling coach Peter Grassick of Syls and it was deemed a great success.

Bren Flood of Syls Senior Hurlers had the hard task of Judging and did a great job. Each boy was given 20 seconds to showcase their skills. There was strong media interest in the competition, with Brian Carthy of RTE sport getting involved - http://tinyurl.com/syls-U10-Hurling-FreeStyle

Prizes of signed Sliothars were awarded to Callum, Connor, Cormac, Pierce, Harry, PJ, Sean and Timber Tommy.

Keeping with the Irish custom of Friday Evenings, there was a prize for everyone in the Audience when Chocolate bars were produced for all contestants and their families.

The plan is now for the U10 boys to turn up and support the senior hurlers on Sunday morning in their league game.
Many thanks to the Syls Hurling Committee for arranging for Syls Senior Hurlers to attend training sessions and share their skills with the boys. Also a hat tip to Peter Grassick, Dave Preston and Mel McIntyre for their help with the competition.
