Girls Mini All-Ireland Finals at Broomfield June 12th 2016

Even the sun came out to play at Broomfield last Sunday as Syl’s younger girls battled it out for All-Ireland honours in glorious summer conditions. More than 60 girls, divided into 6 county teams, took part in the competition on Sunday, preliminary rounds having taken place on the two previous Wednesdays. Each team was cheered on enthusiastically by large numbers of proud parents, family and friends.

While an eventual winner did emerge on the day, all six teams secured a victory during the competition and all were deservedly declared winners. Sylvester’s and Dublin Star Danielle Lawless presented medals at a crowded award ceremony.

With 60 players and many, many more supporters in attendance the organisers did a great job in running the event so well on the day. Particular thanks in this regard goes to: Sarah McPartland, William Rooney, Panner McCarthy, Niall Kealy and Marcus Heary. Thanks also goes to all the coaches and mentors who train and develop the girls throughout the year.

The success of this event is a reflection of the continuing growth of The Ladies Section within the club. Numbers in the nursery section have never been greater and the re-establishment of “Gaelic for Mothers and Others” are further signs of the good health of the section.

Well done to all involved.
