Girls under -14s at Féile 2016

Our girls performed heroically at Thomas Davis on Saturday in wet and mucky conditions in Tallaght. Although we did not progress to the finals we were more than competitive in all our games and indeed lost two of them by only the closest of margins. Despite the conditions it was a great experience for us both on, and off, the field.

The bus home may have been a little quiet but there was also a certain sense of pride in having taken part in Féile and in having represented Sylvester’s to the best of our ability by battling long and hard in every game.

We thank all the parents, friends and guardians who supported us so well and so vocally on the day. Many thanks go also to our individual sponsors for their generous support. We are particularly thankful to the girls themselves who took part in the fun-run in Malahide Castle and raised further cash (from their parents, mainly!) for our Féile fund.

We’re grateful, too, to Paddy Miskelly and to others in the juvenile section for their support and for the loan of a much-needed second set of jerseys. Angela Ahearne provided great support, advice as well as some counseling, to us in all our preparations.

As mentioned the weather was, well, Irish, (muck everywhere) on the day. So a particular shout-out goes to Damien Langton, our newest mentor, who supplied and maintained our gazebo on the day. It provided shelter that was invaluable in the conditions.

Like us, the gazebo was a little battered by the end of the day, but, importantly, it was still standing and will live to fight another day.
