Milestone reached by U16 Footballers

Our under 16 footballers completed their juvenile football journey on Saturday with their last competitive games at U16. Our A’s had a tricky assignment in Castleknock. A revised throw in time to accommodate the Dublin senior championship final saw us without some key players.

This however, gave an opportunity to a number of B team players to step in and each one gave a very good account of themselves. At a point down we had a goal chance to win. It crept agonisingly over the bar for a point which turned out to be the last kick of the game and a draw.

The B’s had a tough outing against a strong Ballinteer side in Broomfield but battled bravely until the final whistle. It was very encouraging to see 20+ players lining out for the team yesterday. There are many clubs that cannot field a second team at U16 and many more that can only do so with significant numbers of younger age players to supplement them.

It has been a privilege to work with the lads for the past number of years and we wish them the very best at Minor level. We will work hard in the coming weeks with the club to ensure the transition to Minor is as smooth as possible.  A big thanks goes out to all that have helped out along the way in coaching, managing and of course supporting the teams.
