Syls girls part of Dubs injury toll

Syls girls part of Dubs injury toll as they bow out to Cork in NFL Semi-final. Dublin started this game with subs replacing four injured first choice players including Nicole Owens (quad strain). Despite that handicap, Dublin made the better start to the game and led at halftime, albeit assisted by some bad misses by the Cork forwards

. Sinead Aherne and Niamh

McEvoy were the best of the Dublin forwards, with both winning ball and
either distributing effectively or scoring themselves. . Between them,
they scored 7 of Dublin’s total of 11 points.

In the second half, Cork imposed themselves defensively against Dublin in
the Dubs own half making it very difficult for the Dubs to work the ball
out of defence to the forwards. Starved of supply, there was not much the
Dublin forwards could do. Allied to this was the robust one-to-one marking
by the Cork defenders, with both Sinead and Niamh being tumbled more than
once with the result that both were injured. Niamh had to retire with an
aggravated leg injury that she had carried into the game. Sinead played on
after receiving attention for what looked to be a very painful hand injury.

Final score was Cork 1 -15, Dublin 0 – 11.

Scorers for Dublin: Sinead Aherne 0-5, Lyndsey Davey 0-3, Niamh McEvoy
