U10 girls at The Curragh

The U10 girls played in a Leinster U10 girls Get In The Game Blitz on Saturday 28th June. We headed down to Moorefield Gaa club which is situated bsside the Curragh race course. The Irish Derby was on there later in the day. The course was looking fabulous and set the scene for a wonderful mornings football.

We registered and picked up the program for the day. St Sylvesters were playing on pitch 3 in a 7 team group. St Sylvesters played against

  • Foxrock/Cabinteely (Dublin)
  • Raheen(Kildare)
  • Delvin(Westmeath)
  • Moorefield(Kildare)
  • Clara(Offaly)
  • Stars of Erin(Dublin)

Each match lasted of 10 minutes. Teams were 10 aside 3 defenders, 3 midfield and 3 forwards. The girls showed great teamwork and had some fabulous scores.

Fourteen girls came to the blitz. They all had time on the line, playing as a forward and as a defender. Most got a run in midfield and 5 played in goals.

The photos show some of the action.

They finished the day with two losses, a draw and three wins. It was great to see the improvement in the girl's football skills since the start of the year.

The girls and their parents had a great time. The weather was ideal for playing. Returning home required the negotiation of heavy traffic due to the Irish Derby.

The event was very well organised and ran smoothly. It was all wrapped up by 1:30 except for the traffic.

I would like to thank the girls for the manner in which they played, their parents for the support the showed the girls during the match.

Have a great summer break. See you when you return to school.
