U14 girls played St Pats Wicklow on Good Friday

Good Friday last was a big day for our under-14 girls. A top team from Wicklow, St. Patrick’s GAA Club had contacted us and challenged us to a game in preparation for Féile 2016. They are a division one team with a good track record and a top place in their division in the league in Wicklow We agreed to play them and to welcome them to Sylvester’s as we, too, are Féile-bound next weekend (Thomas Davis in Tallaght) and a tough challenge was what what we needed. We got permission from the powers that be in the LGFA to play an inter-county match, booked the referee, and we were ready to go.

We made a very good start, scoring two goals without reply. However St. Pat’s came back at us and picked off some excellent points as well as finding the net for a goal. After that the match was nip and tuck until the end. As it happened we lost the match by just one point.

The St. Patrick’s manager, Eddie Leonard, contacted us afterwards and complimented us on our performance. He had particular praise for the fitness and the never-say-die attitude of our team as well as for the sporting manner in which we played. He invited us to a return game in Wicklow, perhaps at end of season, and we certainly will consider that positively

For now, it’s off to Féile we go, buoyed up by that tough challenge game on Good Friday against St. Patrick’s Wicklow.
