U14 girls win in the heat of FoxCab
The half time whistle brought some relief from the heat of battle and a chance to take on board some water and to regroup for the second half. Though trailing, we were still very much in contention and the girls were in no mood to concede as the second half resumed
Fox/Cab got off to a good start in this half but our girls showed great resilience and sheer grit in not giving in. Both sides lost players to injury as the game progressed. Luckily, the substitutes we sent on were more than willing to pay their part in a great team effort. Gradually the tide began to turn in our favour and we began to smell victory
A brace of goals late in the game nudged us ahead and we finished the game a single point to the good. Victory!
The game may not have been pretty. It was more a duel in the sun than an exhibition of the finer points of Girls’ GAA. But the Syls’ girls deserve great praise for their true grit in a coming out on top in a physical encounter with a very determined FoxCab outfit.
At game end, both sides lined up, in sporting fashion, to congratulate each other in the spirit of fair play
Final score: 3-6 to 3-7 Syls win. We are now in a play off for the Division 2 league title against Oliver Plunket’s, date to be decided.
