U16 Footballers Going Well After Weekend Win

The U16A footballers recorded an impressive win over Oliver Plunkett's last Saturday in Broomfield. Plunkett's were on a roll coming into the match having won their first three. Playing with the wind in the first half, a Stephen Lowe goal and points from Brian Murray and Gavin Hydes saw us up by 4 points at the break. Within minutes of the restart Plunkett's bagged 1-2 to lead and there was a real danger that they might kick on from there. However to their great credit the lads dug in and steadied things and a David McCormack penalty pushed us back in front

Further points from Luke Peyton, Gavin Hydes and Brian Murray extended our lead to 5 points with only minutes to go. Plunkett's threw everything they had at us and Ewan Snow pulled off a superb penalty save to maintain our lead. With practically the last kick of the game Plunkett's persistence paid off with a goal but it was too late for them to add to it.
This was a great performance from the lads particularly as they had suffered a defeat against a very strong Na Fianna side two weeks earlier and showed great character to bounce back. We are now sitting joint top of Division 2 with Na Fianna and Oliver Plunkett's and following our next outing against Parnell's on the 19th March we will be heading into the Championship which the lads are keenly looking forward to..
We train twice a week and did some gym work with Glen in our Gym in Broomfield during the close season. This is starting to show in our games.
Although we want to be successful this year, we are also keeping an eye on the future and developing the players for adult football.
Good to see Brian Talty at the game.
