U8s hurling at Whitehall and O'Tooles

The U8s fielded two teams on Saturday morning and, in Miriam's words, the hurling bug has bitten with this group. Well done lads, and thanks to Miriam Mead for sharing, we will watch these lads with interest and hopefully turn up in Bridgefield regularly to support them.

U/8 Match Report 20.2.16

St. Sylvester’s Greens Vs. St. Colmcille’s, Whitehall

Despite the damp morning and several players away for midterm, 15 Syls U8s Green hurlers made the journey to face Whitehall Colmcille on Saturday last. We played 2 keenly contested games, with all players showing great tenacity & ground striking in sometimes slippery conditions. Whitehall Colmcille were also short a few regular players, so a special mention to the Syls players who showed great sportsmanship and volunteered to play for them in rotation (Ryan, Conor Mc, Conor B, Jamie, Charlie, Ben, Sean C and Shin). Syls players took some great scores (for both sides!), and a few 65s were impressively hit. Overall, a very enjoyable 1st hurling outing and a definite sense that the hurling “bug” had bitten all involved.

St. Sylvester’s Blues Vs. St. Lawrence O’Toole’s, Ayrfield

On a very wet Saturday morning the Blue squad of U/8 St. Sylvester’s hurlers, togged out in the impressive clubhouse of O’Toole’s. With jerseys passed around in the dressing room and the team talk delivered, our crew of young hurlers ran out onto the all-weather pitches of O’Toole’s to begin their first ever competitive hurling match. Both Sylvester’s teams quickly got to grips with the wet conditions and posted plenty of scores in two evenly matched games. While the blues of Sylvester’s came out on top at the final whistle, what was most impressive about this squad was how easily they made the transition from training to match play and how genuinely thrilled they were to be playing together as a team, in their club colours. Roll on the games ahead.
