Two Seans close out League Title win in Minor Footballers

MFL2 League Final St Sylvesters 3-08 Lucan Sarsfields 2-07 A deserved league title for this team after a an excellent four point win over an equally impressive and competitive Lucan. Smashing hard hitting game. A late solo goal from substitute Sean Daly gave us a five point cushion and an even later point blank save by Sean O'Connor helped us seal the win.

U21 football win at Ballinteer

U21 F B C'ship Ballinteer St Johns 0-09 St Sylvesters 0-15 Won by six, could have been sixteen, smashing energetic display fro a very young team. We were very solid down the middle and that gave us a platform for the lighter but very fast minors.

U21 Football and Hurling

Syls U21 Football will be managed this year by Paul Hussey with assistance from Seamus Early, Cathal O'Donnell and Kenny Lawlor. First game in the U21 B Championship is this coming Saturday 19th against Ballinteer I believe - will post details when I can find them. The U21 Hurlers are managed by Leonard O'Carroll with assistance from Jimmy Deneher, Anthony Cooney,Bernard Boran and Liam Foley. They had a walkover awarded by Round Towers C last Saturday in the U21C quarter final (I think Towers had a clash with Inter Hurling). U21 is always a great competition, watch out fofr details and get out and support Syls.

Seniors bow out of the Championship

Seniors bow out of the Championship

SFC 2nd rd Castlenock 1-13 St Sylvesters 0-12 Disappointing result for us, missed two late penalties in a late rally that just did not yield the needed scores. Sorry I missed the game, anyone offering a report? Thanks to Peter for the pictures.

Senior finish the league with a good win

AFL1 Lucan Sarsfields 1-10 St Sylvesters 0-16 Four points to one down after ten minutes, we got on top around half back and midfield and quicker ball in to Conor and Niall yielded a string of good points to give us a temporary lead. A few mistakes at the back gave up a converted penalty and two points and we trailed by two for about 20 minutes over the break. We dominated the second half and made plenty of chances but it still took a long time to recapture the lead with a string of Coughlan and Meaney points and we weathered a late Lucan charge that yielded three points with some excellent defense.

Disappointing loss at Brigids

Disappointing loss at Brigids

AFL1 St Brigids 1-09 St Sylvesters 0-08 Definitely a game we should have won. Just did not convert up front, simple as that. We recovered from a slow start against the wind with a couple of Conor Meaney points, Micháel hit one and Garry another and we looked good at 5 to 4. A foul on Garry somehow resulted in a quick break for Brigids and they goaled and pointed and suddenly had dailight between us. Playing into wind and rain, conditions were certainly difficult, but we did create about 6 more scoring chances but poor shooting and wrong options conspired against us.

The Team of '96 - 20 years on

Brian Talty reminded me to mention that it was 20 years since Syls won our only ever Dublin Senior Football Championship. I took a look at my archives, courtesy of Brian Colgan a few years ago, and was struck by the number of lads still very involved in coaching, some still playing, a great tribute to St Sylvesters.. Have a root through the pictures and news clippings, pretty cool stuff. I think Talty said he was going to buy a pint some evening, maith fear, mines a Guinness.

Junior As beat Crumlin

Junior As beat Crumlin

AFL5 Lively game on pitch two and an important win for Syls. I was particularly impressed with the running and point scoring of Alex Wright, it's been a while since I've seen him play.. Andy at full back and Airy at Centre give us a solid defense and with lads like Niall Higgens, Kevin Lynott, Eoin Hammill we had a good side out for our fourth adult game of the weekend.

Junior Bs lose to Cuala

Junior Bs lose to Cuala

AFL8 St Sylvesters 0-10 Cuala 1-11 I guess Cuala will be celebrating their revenge for last nights defeat down in Dalkey. It was a good competitive game, level four or five timesbut we took the wrong options in attack in the last quarter and Cuala, with a strong wind in their backs, we more economical with their chances. Lots of good displays from the likes of Rob Taylor, James McKennaByrne, Dylan McEvoy and Sean Halligan, and it was great to see an evergreen Shay Keogh still tormenting a full back.

Good win for seniors over Cuala

Good win for seniors over Cuala

AFL1 St Sylvesters 3-18 Cuala 1-09 Probably a fair reflection of this game, we came out of the blocks quickly against a strong wind and knocked over a string of points and seemed to be moving faster and more decisively than I had previously noticed. Alan Foy and Gary were running hard up the middle, long balls from Ed to Micháel and Conor Meaney also a feature. Ross blocked a clearance and solo'ed through for a goal that gave us a six point half time lead.

Inters let it slip against Brigids

AFL3 I think we lost by three against Brigids, we looked pretty good in the first half against the wind, defending bravely and staying within a few points. I didn't see the second half as the game clashed with the seniors on the other field. Pity they always clash, it's hard to watch both teams.

Win and a loss in junior football

Win and a loss in junior football

The Junior Bs lost their unbeaten record to KIllians/Kevins in a lively game in Broomfield. Summer and Euro's had an impact on our team but we still had a good team on the field. These lads won the semi-final of the Murphy Cup on Sunday and will surely bring silverware to the club this year. The A team had a good win against Maurs on pitch1 to drag us out of the bottom four in Div5.

Seniors win over Maurs

Seniors win over Maurs

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-16 St Maurs 1-06 We raced into an early lead, six points to two and looked comfortable, Maurs pegged us back a couple of times but we seemed to have the ability to move on each time. A goal and a few points mid second half pulled Maurs back to a three behind but Syls kicked on again to win by seven. Nice to see Alan Foy back, Conor Meaney and a roving Conor Quinn hit good points, Ed manned the middle in the absence of Ross, Fionn and Glenn were also pretty much to the fore and Danial St Ledger hit some brilliant frees.

Seniors comeback not enough at Boden

Seniors comeback not enough at Boden

AFL1 WW lost by 4 points after a good second half display into the wind. I missed the first half, couldn't find the field over at Abbotstown, but we trailed at half time after playing with a decent wind on a very big field. A smashing goal by Alan Foy and points by Micháel, Ed and Gary had us ahead by a point and playing well but a few misdirected passes let Boden off the hook and a set them up for a breakaway goal and they finished with a good point.

AFL 1 Ballymun Kickhams v St. Sylvester's 25/5/2016

The lads came into this game on the back of an extremely good performance against St. Vincent's 7 day's earlier with the goal of building on their previous efforts and securing 2 precious league points. Games against Ballymun over the last couple of years have generally seen the Mun come out on top but straight from the start in Wednesday our lads were determined to ensure that would be a different outcome on this occasion.

Junior B continue winning ways, Inters and As lose

The Junior B team had their second win of the week beating Na Fianna 1-16 to 0-09 after a big win away to Raheny earlier in the week. The As lost 3-10 to 0-14 to Castlenock in a very lively game while the Inters came back from a poor start but couldn't just catch St Peregrines, losing by 4 in the end. There was a huge Peregrines crowd at the game so I guess things are going well over there, more luck to them.

Seniors win by three at Ballymun

Seniors win by three at Ballymun

AFL1 Probably our best win in a while, a good lively game where the lead changed hands frequently. Sweeney was again on fire, Ross was my man of the match with a return to his best hard working form rewarded with a goal late in the second half, Mick yet again great in goal but, in fairness there were many good performances, Scrappy very decisive coming from the back, Beano with a few great scores, Ronan and Ciaran Roche. Maybe Cotsie will send a more complete report.

Seniors Push St. Vincent's All the Way

VdeP Cup St Sylvester's 0-17 St. Vincent's 4-10 This was an extremely well contested game with both teams not giving an inch. It was played at a real fast pace with high intensity. the sides traded scored through out the first half with all of the home teams points coming from play after some very patient build up leading to opportunities which were taken when presented to us. All the while we restricted the visitors to mostly frees.
