Seniors make it two wins out of two this week

After the win by the Junior 1 team against Thomas Davis yesterday evening, the senior team rounded off a good week for our adult footballers with a hard fought victory over Trinity Gaels at rain-soaked, windswept Broomfield today (Saturday 11th July). The few brave souls who turned up in the driving rain to witness this game were rewarded by the lads who provided a committed battling performance to win by the narrowest of margins against a Trinity Gaels team which never gave up and pressed hard for an equaliser right up to the final whistle.

Three wins and a loss in adult football

The senior team fought out a very good win against a determined St Brigids 2-10 to 0-13 at Blanchardstown to build on the recent draw at Marys. Next up is Trinity Gaels on Saturday evening at Broomfield. The Intermediates had an easier win 1-15 to 0-6 over Finians of Newcastle, the Junior 1 team won well over St Vincents 0-11 to 0-6 and the Juinior 2 team lost I think.

Junior Footballers - Team of the Month

In what was an extremely busy week for our adult footballers the 3rd team was the only one to win all 3 of their league games. The 6 league points they picked up during the last week has brought them right back into the promotion race in AFL 7.

Seniors lose a game we should(could) have won against OP/ER

It was a bit of a Jekyl and Hyde display from Syls against the star studded Oliver Plunkets Eoghan Ruadh. In a way we might be pleased with the overall display . . in other ways we were very disappointed to lose a game where we came on strong and then didn't finish the job.

Great win in Junior Football Championship

A tight battle until up to the last 10 minutes, then Syls took over and won convincingly in the end. This continues the good run for all our football teams at the moment.

Close . . but no cigar in Senior Championship

We lost cos we scored less than the opposition. Well dooh!! We made about the same number of chances but didn't score enough from distance and Kickams got a few telling points in the last 10 minutes that was the difference. Not a bad performance against a fine Ballymun team but, well . . . .

Junior D Championship win - impressive show by Syls

Our fourth team were the first adult football team to take the field in championship this year. The team led by Declan Barnes and Pajo Gallagher made the trip out to Liffey Gaels. 23 players togged out. This is an achievement in itself as the team has numerous injuries at present but very encouraging to see some young players combining well with a few St Sylvester's veterans.

Syls in the news - Wexford star Diarmuid Kinsella

WEXFORD footballer Diarmuid Kinsella is set to join Dublin club St Sylvester's of Malahide. Kinsella missed Wexford's great season last year as he was working in Hong Kong, but he has since returned to inter-county action. And it has emerged that he has applied to transfer from his home club of Castletown, who look unlikely to try to block his move. From the Irish Independent 29th April 09

Great win at Senior Football

Nice to welcome the All Ireland Champions to Broomfield and especially nice to repeat our win of last Autumn over Crokes to take our first points of the campaign. The first half was tepid enough, Crokes got the first two points, we slowly woke ourselves to around the middle and were probably unlucky to be only one up at the break - Beanos' point probably the pick of our effort

Seniors lose - other adult teams win

Playing with a strong wind in the first half we hit 10 wides and gave away a sloppy goal. Eoin Bennis had a great effort come back off the crossbar for Damien McMahon to tab in and leave us 3 up at the break

Senior footballers win - Minors lose

Weekend roundup - Sigerson slips from Coughlan's grasp

Hard luck to John and Niall Coughlan and to Collie McIntyre who played for DIT in the Sigerson Cup Final on Saturday, losing to Cork IT on their home ground. Sounds like Niall's thrusty left foot was in action again.

Nicky Brennan brings Daven and Cusack to St Sylvesters

Good crowd at the club on Wednesday evening for the visit of GAA President Nicky Brennan. Good speaker, gave us a few stories about Council meeting at Hayes Hotel in Thurles and how Michael Daven and Michael Cusack would have viewed his agenda addressing items like Inter Provincials in Dubai, International Rules in Australia, grounds opening in the US - how the Association has evolved in recent years

Syls lose the shootout for promotion

It couldn't have been tighter. We drew after extra time two weeks and it went to the last kick of the game last night at the lovely Garristown ground when a free from Dwyer's no 9, maybe his sixth, was enough to see them promoted to AFL3 next year.

Pockets picked in Rowlesstown

A pretty bleak setting, cold wind straight down an open field perched on a hill. This was an opportunity for some lads to get a game in with much of our starting fifteen missing for one reason or another. We trailed 0-2 to 0-4 after playing into the wind in the first half.

AFL4 playoff ends in a draw after extra time

Lovely morning out in the Naul, North Dublin looking forward to Spring. Syls never recreated the pre Christmas form when we literally blew O'Dwyers away, maybe the cold and windy conditions worked against us as we never opened them up and let the opposition pull us into a bit of a dogfight.
