Inters win the Loving Cup

Inters win the Loving Cup

Loving Cup Final St Sylvesters 1-10 Naomh Olaf 1-07 A hard fought win continues the good run for the Inter footballers and brings, I think, the first silverwear of the season to Syls. There was a good mix of young and old in our side and this certainly gave u sthe experience to handle some robust tackling while also spreading out the playand winning going away.Great to see John Peacock back in action, Luke Troy continued in goal, Dave Galvin, also coming back from injury, had a good game in the middle while Paudie White, Mark Finnrty and Dylan Connolly caused lots of problems up front.

Inters win six from seven

AFL3 Fingallians 0-09 St Sylvesters 1-09 After losing our first six games of the year we have now won six of our last seven, the latest a hard fought win over local rivals Fingallians in Swords. Luke Troy had a run in goal and I'm told Colm Byrne had a real stormer in th emiddle.

Footballers win at Parnells

Footballers win at Parnells

AFL1 Parnells 1-06 St Sylvesters 0-17 Pretty comprehensive win over our local rivals almost pulls us clear of the danger zone. We fielded a fairly inexperienced team but still had plenty to spare even though Nells got back to four points mid second half with a goal and a few points. We kicked on with a string of points to win well in the end. Fair dues to the Parnells keeper who made three point blank saves from Jack, Niall and Paul to deny us a goal. Mark was again flawless from frees, Ronan, Shane and Ross ruled the middle, Aiden and Fionn marshalled a mostly steady backline.

Seniors run Crokes close

Seniors run Crokes close

AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-10 Kilmacud Crokes 1-12 A soft early goal and missed chances in the first half were our downfall in this senior league game in Broomfield. It took us a while to settle but we recovered to trail by four at the break. The second half was much better from our perspective, we mostly controlled the game, Mark Hazely gave an exhibition of free taking but all too often our attack broke down through being dispossed or errant passing and we didn't take on enough scores to get at least a draw we would have deserved.

Juniors lose in rainy Rollestown

Juniors lose in rainy Rollestown

JFC D Fingal Ravens 0-08 St Sylvesters 0-03 Absolutely miserable evening away to Ravens in the D Championship with heavy sweeping rain which the home team handled better that we did. We finshed the first half five points to nill down but really should have had maybe a couple of points to show for our efforts. With wind advantage in the second half it took us too long to get on the score sheet, a nice point from Dylan followed by a trademark long range effort by Sean. Another point brought us within three and we had a good period of dominence but couldn't score again. mishandling the slippy ball, hitting the crossbar or being crowded out by a well organised Ravens defense.

Footballers let it slip to Boden

Footballers let it slip to Boden

AFL1 Very disappointing, we lost by three after leading for most of the game and generally looking the stronger team. Gary Sweeney gave a master class in the first half with a goal and five points, Ross was again a tower of strength in the middle, this time well supported by a more active Stephen Cunningham, Alan Foy made some great runs late on but a good move to create a goal at the death was weekly executed and Boden survived to gain the win.

Seniors lose at Plunketts

AFL1 St Oliver Plunkett ER 1-12 St Sylvesters 0-10 We were pretty short staffed this evening with a lot of lads away but stayed with Plunketts for three quarters of the game before a goal with the wind gave Plunketts a bit of daylight. Stephen Finnegan hit a few nice points from placed balls and Ross Hazely in particular put it up to the opposition.

Some fine football in seniors win over Cuala

Some fine football in seniors win over Cuala

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-18 Cuala 2-10 A super fifteen minutes just after the break when we hit seven or eight straight points without reply gave us a fairly convincing win over a depleted Cuala last evening. Maybe it was the fact that Micháel is away that gave the forwards the ambition to shoot on sight, they pretty much all contributed good scores. Dave and Brian Sexton led the way, Garry Sweeney carried brilliantly and is almost back to his best, Scooby and Ross owned the middle, Shane continued his excellent form of late.

Inters win again, well done

Inters win again, well done

AFL3 St Sylvesters 1-08 St Vincents 0-07 Very solid display, leading from start to finish but never by much, the backline in particular holding out a decent looking Vincents outfit while up front we were economical enough, converting just enough of scarce enough opportunities. This is our second win in a row and maybe, fingers crossed, the start of a good run.

Junior footballers gutsy win over O'Dwyers

Junior footballers gutsy win over O'Dwyers

AFL5 A Pierce Gibney penalty and a Kevin Casey goal were the difference in the second half as a more mobile Syls team pulled away from O'Dwyers in the last ten minutes after a tough tight game in Broomfield this evening.

Great win for hurlers over Boden

Great win for hurlers over Boden

SHC B Gr2 St Sylvesters 2-17 Ballyboden St Endas 2-11 Super win in Broomfield in a ding dong encounter against a Boden team we always struggle with. Not tonight, we strated in whirlwind fashion with early goals by Kev O'Flynn and a great team effort finished in style by Martin Ormonde and led by three at the break. Unlike recent games where we did not surface after the break, tonight Stephen Keogh won everything that came down the left and if he didn't score himself, and he did score at least four points, he won a free for Collie to score. Collie Byrne also nailed a few long range points from open play that helped keep Boden on the back foot.

Senior footballers starting to motor

Senior footballers starting to motor

AFL1 St Sylvesters A ten point win in a game where we showed a bit of drive and style with something close to a full selection available. Jockser was back in the middle with Ross, Shane, Gary and Beano were devestating at half forward with Collie, Scooby and Glen very effective at half back. Pity we let Ravens upset us late in the game where they made a little comeback, having been well out of it mid second half.

Junior Bs win a cracker at Maurs

Junior Bs win a cracker at Maurs

JFC D A two point win away to Maurs in the D Championship keeps our unbeaten run in tact for 2015, a great feat for a very young 4th football team at Syls. This was a great game in very windy conditions against a Maurs team that led for most of the game. I asked the lads last night who was Man of the Match and there was a pretty quick shout for Mossie (Derek Morris) who is having a great season in both hurling and football and is also coaching at juvenile and his ball winning and distribution from corner was indeed excellent.

Junior As lose a thriller to Plunkets ER

JFC A St Sylvesters 1-12 St Oliver Plunkets ER 1-14 The reality of the higher grade caught up with us meeting a strong division 4 team in the Junior A Championship in Broomfield. It was a game we might have won and we battled to the end but couldn't get the second goal we needed to overhaul a good lead by Plunkets built up in the second half. A misunderstanding in the first half gave up a soft goal and left us chasing a lead even though we had a strong wind in our backs, two points adrift at the break.
