Minor B Hurlers go top of Div5

The Minor B hurlers had a hard fought victory over Wild Geese this morning to go top of Div 5. Oldtown is never an easy place to go and we looked unsettled early on as the forwards wasted quite a few good chances. However Daniel Mannix fired in a goal which kept us in the game and after a tough first half against the breeze we only trailed by a point at the break

Minor hurlers win high scoring encounter

MHL2 St Sylvesters 4 - 11. Thomas Davis 4 - 7 The Syls boys got off to a slow start here in rain soaked pitch 1 in Broomfield . Playing against a strong breeze the Syls mentors took a gamble by going all out for a couple of early goals. This didn't work out for Syls as we conceded a couple of soft goals midway through the first half so plans had to change

Minor football taking shape

Minor football taking shape

The Minor As beat Nmh Marnóg in mid-week following a win away to Raheny and a loss by a point to Vincents in their opening game. The B team playing in D5 GrB looked like comfortable winners over Na Fianna yesterday and have also beaten Whitehall but I haven't seen a result for the Fingallians game.

Minor Hurlers off the mark at Raheny

MHL2 Raheny 1-06 St Sylvesters 4-18 Comprehensive scoreline as the minors recovered from a late defeat two weeks ago to take their first win of the season. To be fair, Raheny played some excellent hurling and watching (half watching as the senior football was on the adjacent field) from the sideline it was not obvious that we were so far ahead. We did have Cooney and McLoughney back in the team and they gave us more pwoer than two weeks ago but Sean Graham and Luke Hughes were on fire also, defensively Liam was excellent in goal while Ciaran Murphy, Philip, and Mikey were also in good form.

Minors hurlers field two teams - just pipped in both

MHL2 St Sylvesters 0-12 Fingallians 2-09 A goal fives minutes into over time was unfortunate from our perspective as we had spent the wh.. A great display byole second half fighting our way to draw level only to lose out tat the death. A great display with a very understrength team against a pretty decent looking Fingallians with lots of good hurlers. For the firat time ever we fielded a second Minor hurling team but they jsut lost out by two points to Castlenock

Heartbreak for Minor Hurlers

Report from Anthony attached. . . . MHC C Final St Sylvesters 1-12 Ballyboden St Endas 3-07 AET Smashing game of hurling in wet windy conditions at O'Toole Park, led by two points with 3 minutes remaining in extra time only for the Boden 11 to take a high ball and evade our defence for a brilliant goal from which we couldn't recover. The lads should be very proud of themselves, There was good Syls support, obviously disappointed for our team and fair play to Boden, they were great opponents.

U16 hurlers win Championship in a cracker

Congratulations to the U16s winning the Championship and their league in their first year hurling. The lads were disappointed to win the league without having to play two weeks ago but they had to make up for it today winning a helter skelter encounter with a fine St Peregrines by two points after extra time over in O'Toole Park. John Crosse or Jimmy will send a report and pictures but I wonder did anyone catch captain Colm Casey's initation of Joe McDonagh with his acceptance speech as gaeilge, I'm told it was pure Colm, maith fear.

U16 Hurlers clinch the league.

U16 Hurlers clinch the league.

In the end it turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax as a conceded fixture by Na Fianna on Saturday left the U16 hurlers with no game. The lads weren't complaining however as it meant they maintained their 100% record for the season and more importantly clinched the Div 5 league title with a game to spare.

Minors lose in Championship

Minors lose in Championship

MFC C Gr1 A heavyt loss at home to Erins Isles in Broomfield, Isles looked the more mature side, generally stronger around the field. We were within three points at the break but our attacks were under pressure and we hit a few wides while Is;es tacked on a few points and opened a gap, moving further ahead with two well taken goals. We did hit a number of nice points but never enough.

U16 hurlers into C'ship Final

U16HC C Smashing win over Wild Geese after a very tight first half. A goal just before the break by the ever lively Colm Casey gave us a bit of daylight over an Oldtown team with plenty of hurling. Defensively Liam Foley and Barry Crosse were excellent, Dennis O'Brien at centre back and Cian at centre forward but I better leave it to Jimmy as I don't know all this team. First year competing at thsi age oin hurling and doing very well.

U16 D Championship Final St Sylvesters 3-10 Na Fianna 1-02 Great to go the Parnell Park and win. To be fair tioNa Fianna the score did not reflect an excellent competitive and sporting game where we simply took our scores and they didn't but in all other aspects it was a pretty even game. I hope John has a chance to send a full report. Congratulations to Brian Murray on a well deserved Man of the Mattch Award.

The team has been progressing well in the second half of the season having beaten table toppers Na Fianna twice in recent weeks playing an exciting brand of attacking football and Saturday was no different.

Poor start kills the U16s

U16F Div2 Three early goals caught us flat footed on the all weather at Ballymun and we just never quite recovered. We played into a strong cold wind in the first half and battled back gamely, dominating the second quarter but didn't convert enough on the scoreline. We came out strong in the second half but, again, didn't convert enough to dent Ballymuns lead, missing goal chances an both posts and the opposing keeper making a few great saves.
