Busy Syls Hurlers

We have six lads on the Fingal Minor Hurling team in the All Ireland C Final in Ashbourne next Saturday (see other article). Last Saturday we had four players on the Dublin U14 teams in the Tony Forrestal in Waterford (Eoin Cooney, Danial Murphy, Mickey Meaney, Eamon McLoughney) and four in the U16 All Ireland Blitz in Tipperary (Simon Owens, Ciaran O'Carroll, Shane Nangle, Barry Shearman).

Feile Hurling roundup from Pat Hoyne

Basically it was a great few days, notwithstanding the results didn't go our way, the event itself was very much a success overall. It kicked off in the sunshine on Thursday 5th July when we took on Portlaoise, who we were hosting in Malahide for the weekend, in the first match. While the final score was 3-5 to 0-4 to our visitors, the match was very much in the balance until right before half time when a breakaway Laois goal put clear daylight between the two teams and they went on from there. Portlaoise didn't get it as hard again until they got to Croke Park on Saturday!

14 Footballers win at Thos Davis

Our U14s Footballers had a good win away to Thomas Davis last night. The conditions were poor and it was difficult to play football but we grinded out a result. We needed to win this as although we had an excellent Feilie campaign we have struggled in the league mostly due to not having a full panel available on a regular basis, injuries, sickness, holidays etc…. Hopefully, the Feilie and now this result will act as a catalyst for better results after the Summer break. Ciaran

Malahide Primary Schools Senior Hurling Championship

Whether it was the opportunity to finish school early or the desire to represent their school in hurling, I am not sure but over 50 young hurlers turned up to play for their school in the inaugural ‘Malahide Primary Schools Senior Hurling Championship’ sponsored by The Grand Hotel. Panner sent PJP pictures, I think Ernie has some Ollies

U14 hurlers pipped in Feile Semi Finals

After their heroics in the football just a few weeks ago, the U14s had another splendid day out in the Dublin Feile na nGael Hurling tournament on Saturday, just pipped by the favourites (and eventual winners) Whitehall Gaels after extra time in the semi final down at Cuala. I am promised pictures and a story from Joan or John. We still have the All Ireland Feile to look forward to aswe are hosting in Dublin this year.

Oliver Plunketts win in Croke Park

Congratulations to St Oliver Plunketts NS on winning the Cumann na mBunscoil Senior Hurling Shield Final at Croke Park today, they defeated Scoil Mobhi of Glasnevin 2-8 to 1-5. Earlier in the campaign todays opposition had run out comfortable 5 point victors in Bridgefield, however Mr Fortune had tuned this squad to the max and with Croke Park inspiring them they led from start to finish.

Great show in Feile by our U14s

Although we didn't win in the end we went close in reaching our first Feile na nÓg Football Final since 2005 and only bowed out to a very fine St Brigids outfit. The lads were particularly pleased with our group win over Na Fianna where we played the best football this team have ever produced. We had to fight really hard to overcome Thomas Davis with a late Mark McCormack goal on Sunday morning and that may have proved our undoing in the final. We gave up an early goal against Brigids in the final in Parnell, fought out way back to 0-4 to 1-1 but the effort and the big field proved too much as Brigids dominated the second half to win well in the end.

U14 footballers hard win in the Cup

Our u14 football team won their 2nd game in the U14 Football Cup against a hard working Erins Isle team in Bridgefield. The team is a mixture of our two u14 teams and because both path panels train together the players work hard for each other resulting in some fine scores and in particular a number of well taken goals. Although there was only a goal between the teams with 10 mins to play, we defended well with Jack Hussey and Luke Cassidy putting in a lot of hardwork. Our forwards responded with some goods scores to ensure a win for Syls..

U14s leave it too late

U14F Div1 St Sylvesters St Johns Balinteer WE ere two points up at the break against the wind and, by all accounts, looking the stronger team. Nobody told Johns, however, who came out in the second half playing some fabulous football and knocking up 3-02 without reply before we got ourselves going again.

Some smashing scores in U13 game

The St Sylvester’s U13A team kicked off their league campaign on a sunny Saturday afternoon in the castle where last years Div 1 North champions were up against the Div 1 South champions, Kilmacud Crokes. It’s rare that a match lives up to its expectations but this one certainly did not disappoint.

U13s and U14s get together for Cup football

With it being a hurling week-end and our 14 football team getting a bye in the first round of the U14 Football Cup , Syls u13s and u14s footballers played a challenge match in The Castle on Saturday afternoon. We had about 45 players and all players got a decent run. This will prepare our u14s for the cup competition and also help to integrate the both u14s football teams and u13 footballers for the Feile. Better than any training.

Tough loss U14A

U14 Div1 We lost by a few points to Clontarf in Bridgefield in a fine looking game that went from end to end with good scores on both sides. This difference I suppose was a couple of goals for Clontarf, one from a penalty, in the second half against some real quality points from the Syls lads. I think we will be a little disappointed, might have won it.
