U12 A Hurlers start with a win

While our B team had a bye, the U12 A hurlers got their season of to a flying start with a good win over a strong St Vincents team. Due to the weather we haven’t had much opportunity to hurl and that showed in our early play but as the game wore on we got stronger and stronger. As the B’s didn’t have a game it gave us the opportunity to add a few subs so we went out with 16 players while the opposition could only muster 12.

U12s blow away the Christmas Cobwebs

The U12 footballers and hurlers took advantage of the mild weather on Saturday and blew away the cobwebs building in the lungs since we finished at the beginning of December with a run through the Portmarnock sand dunes. Many of the lads had obviously not been sitting around for the month as they were fit and fast. We finished up the session with a game of football on the beach. Everyone enjoyed the bit of fun and a different type of training and weather permitting we hope to continue for the next couple of weeks.

U11s take Croke Park Tour

For our Christmas event, 38 of our U11 players and some of the parents took the Tour of Croke Park last Saturday. We started in the Cusack Stand and visited the dressing rooms, media room, Players Lounge, VIP section and the top of the Hogan Stand. We came out the tunnel with the crowd noise blaring out but we weren’t allowed on the pitch unfortunately.

Magic from Malahide

From The Herald - Plunketts have that bit extra to see off Hollypark in cracker By Diarmuid Geraghty Wednesday November 28 2012. THE big screen welcomed all to Croke Park yesterday. It stated that Cumann na mBunscol have been promoting 'the love of our games since 1928'. And it looks like the beat will go on.

U11 hurlers against Vincents

Saturday morning was a fesitval of hurling in Bridgefield with the U11s taking on St Vincents in tow games - we lost the A game to very talented visitors with a high level of skill displayed by both teams - I think we won the B game where the skill and commitment was also of a very high standard - looks good at U11 - the Syls goalkeeper and wing forward warrant special mention.

U11 hurlers unbeaten in A Division

The U11 hurlers maintained their unbeaten start to their first season in the A Division with a hard fought victory over a very good Nh Mearnog side at Bridgefield on Saturday. Games between the near neighbours are generally close and can go either way but it is to Syls credit that they fought hard for this win.

u11 hurlers trip to Cuala….

Playing in the top section of u11 hurling has some disadvantages, early starts, long trips, tough teams but when the teams put in a performance like Saturday it renders all disadvantages obsolete. We play 2 11 a side teams with aggregate scores counting over the 50 minute matches. This was our second league game having beaten St. Marks narrowly in our first.

Sylvester's U10's footballers finished off the season last weekend by hosting a travelling party from Mungret St Paul's club in Limerick who stopped off for a couple of challenge matches in Malahide before heading on to do the Croke Park stadium tour. The sight of the 30 kids in Limerick jerseys invading Broomfield didn't faze our lads who went on to give a great display of freescoring football.

U10s support The Dubs

Wednesday night is usually training night but when the newly crowned Champions are playing their first match as possessors of the Sam Maguire just down the road something has to give. But if its good enough for the All Ireland Champions its good enough for Syls U10s and we took our training drills to the Dubs home pitch of Parnell Park so we could train and shout on the Heros in Blue.

Malahide lose after extra time in Community Games

Malahide, mostly made up of our U9 and U10s lost out to Knocklyon (mostly Ballyboden I think) after extra time in the semi finals of the Community Games GAA in Bridgefield on Wednesday. (Hurling is next week I think). I don't see a lot of these age groups but this was simply fabulous football from both sides, fast, skillful, competitive. The extra-time was a real ding-dong, we led by a point, they goaled, we pointed again and they goaled again and in two short 5 minute spells just held on to win. We beat Palmerstown in the 3rd place game. A lad from Knocklyon promised pictures.

U10 Hurlers and Footballers trip to Wexford

Memories are made of days like this! 34 players and 19 parents left Malahide at 9.30 on a damp, cold Sunday morning but by the time we passed Bray all we could see ahead was glorious sunshine. By that stage the bus was rocking to Sponge Bob Square Pants as the kids sung away with gusto to the DVD. We were on our way to play a hurling and football challenge against Glynn-Barntown of Wexford, home club of Una Deneher and recent Wexford Senior Hurling Champions.

Match report U10 Football

The St Sylvesters U10’s were proud to play their first home match on the super Bridgefield pitch against Na Fianna. We had a strong team out and played with great heart and determination. Adam Ajmal played in goal in the first half then moved up to the forwards and cracked in two terrific goals. Our defence of Robert Meehan, Dylan Venner and Daniel Stone dominated the Na Fianna forwards holding them scoreless in the first half. Andrew Roe and Michael O’Brien worked tirelessly in midfield, Michael got some great scores and Andrew demonstrated excellent skill.
