Sinead Aherne top scorer in Dublin V Galway NFL game in Parnell Park

Dublin Ladies suffered their second defeat in a row in the National Football League against Galway, scoring 1-14 to Galway’s 4-11. Galway deserved their victory, being much more adept at carving a way through the Dublin defence than vice versa, with some Dublin players making too many basic handling and passing errors.

Senior Ladies start season

The Senior Ladies footballers started their season with a game against Castlknock on Monday evening. This was moved from Wednesday so we were short some regulars and filled up with some very young minors. Up against a seasoned Castleknock team with some very experienced players, we faced a tough challenge. However, we acquitted ourselves well, played some nice attacking football when we were let and scored 2-6 in the process.

Good news on the double for Syls ladies

Niamh McEvoy has been honoured with a replacement call up for the 7th TG4 All Stars tour to San Diego. She will join Sinead Aherne, who earned an All Star Award in 2014. The 2014 and 2015 teams will play an exhibition game in San Diego and this will be the highpoint of the eight day trip. Activities will include visits to local schools and a series of coaching sessions. Side Note - I really thought Niamh's display in the All Ireland Final deserved an All Star award - it was a great display of Gaelic Football from a great player.

This article appeared in the Irish Examiner, Friday 26th of February - Author Jackie Cahill Dublin star Noelle Healy is serious about her football but her work at the Mater Hospital helps to keep sport in perspective. Gruelling 12-hour shifts are the norm for Healy, who qualified as a doctor last year.Sport provides a release from her hectic professional life and while defeats are hard to take, Healy knows not to linger on such losses.

Syls girls lead as Dublin make a flying start to the league

Dublin scored 2.14 to Kerry's 1.06 in the first round match of the National League played in Parnell Park on Sunday. Dublin were by far the fitter and slicker team as reflected by the impressive score line. Eight Dublin players were on the score sheet. Nicole, Niamh and Sinead were all in the starting fifteen, what an honour for the club to have the highest number of players from one club in the starting fifteen. Niamh bagged two brilliant goals and in all the girls contributed 2.05 to the score sheet. Nice to see good Syls presence in the stands.

MINOR GIRLS LOSE OUT IN LEAGUE FINAL THRILLER

Syls Minor Girls lost by a single point in Div 3 League Final away to Ballinteer St Johns. Despite fielding a team short of many regulars, these girls showed real courage and determination (and plenty of good attractive football) to claw back from a 9 point deficit midway through the second half, playing against a very strong wind. Syls led by 2 points at half time but a couple of quick goals give Ballinteer the initiative and for a while it looked like they were going to take advantage of the strong wind and cruise to victory.

Syls and Naomh Marnóg hosted the biggest event in Ladies Football with the Gaelic 4 Mothers catering for 1,600 players on Saturday. Congratulations to all on a great event. What a pity we do not have our own teams playing these past few years. We really need some mentors to get this super initiative going in Malahide again, This must be one of the great initiatives in ladies games and it's great that we provide facilities and support but it would be even better if Syls were playing again. Dublin Ladies just a little short

Dublin Ladies just a little short

Congratulations to the Dublin Ladies on a determined display in Croke Park today but unfortunately it was just not enough to dethrone the all conquering Cork. Niamh McEvoy led my example up front, must have been her best ever display for Dublin, Nicole Owens foraged hard for the decisive opening after her introduction, it would have been great to see Nicole get more ball in space to create a greater threat. It was a great honour for St Sylvesters that our players again contributed to the biggest event in Ladies Sport in Europe. Hard luck girls, I felt the transition from defence to attack was just a little too ponderous to threaten the Cork girls.
