Syls u16 Girls – A disappointing end to the Championship ...

Timmy, Nuala & I had the pleasure of managing the Girls u16 squad this season. We didn’t participate in the League and only came together during the summer for a ‘crack’ at the Division 2 u16 Championship. As soon as the Leagues finished we got a group of 21 players together and started our preparation. All through the summer the numbers attending each training session were really encouraging. A number of practice matches (including a memorable trip to St Laurences of Kildare) and we were ready for Championship.

Scoil Iosa won five games in Dublin before winning the Dublin Title last week. Gorey CS on the other hand had to travel around the Provence with one game against Offaly opposition actually played over the Provincial border in Tipperary

Minor girls beat Boden in Div1 C'ship

The Minor Girls had a great win in the Div 1 Minor Championship against Ballyboden St Endas today in Bloomfield Syls 1-9 Ballyboden 0-7. Since we started at U10 in 2005 we have won a trophy every year. We always found Ballyboden very hard to beat. We did beat them in the League by 5 points the year they won the All Ireland Féile in 2009.

Ladies win against Clontarf

Our Senior Ladies footballers got off to a good start with a Cup win over Clontarf in their first match of the season on a score line of 0-9 to 1-4. With a mixture of experience, recent graduates from Minor ranks and a sprinkling of under age players, this team played an attractive brand of football tutored by new manager Dave McEvoy who took over only last week. There were impressive performances from some of the older players like Jackie Costello playing in goal, unbelievably for the first time,

Ladies impressive in League win

Our Senior Ladies footballers gave an exhibition of open intelligent football against an admittedly poor Ballinteer St. John's team in their first League outing at Broomfield on Wednesday night, winning on a scoreline of 9-20 to 0-3. Our intercounty stars were in action in this game and gave exhibitions of how the game should be played, Sinead Aherne and Nicole Owens cleaning up in the full forward line and Niamh McEvoy giving a powerhouse exhibition in midfield.

Dublin Ladies in National League Final

Sinead Aherne scored 6 points and Niamh McEvoy played an effective game at centre forward when helping Dublin beat Monaghan in the National Football League Div 1 semifinal. Nicole Owens was on the bench. They now go on the meet Cork in the final. Both teams play an attractive brand of football. They played a cracker earlier in the season when they drew at Parnell Park. Another impressive win for the Ladies

The Ladies footballers contrinued on their winning way with another comprehensive win away to Clann Mhuire, The Naul, on Wednesday night, winning on a scoreline of 6-12 to 2-6. The mixture of youth and experience worked well again. Anne Clarke put in a player of the match performance, constantly making herself available for passes and taking up intelligent defensive positions when the opposition had the ball.

U16 girls in Championship Final

We held Naomh Olaf to a two point lead playing into a strong wind in the first half but our younger team could not sustain the effort in the second half and Olaf's ran out convincing winners. We don't have a full U16 team and a lot of younger girls made up the numbers so we were delighted to compete n the final and obviously disappointed not to win. Shane will send a report when he gets a chance.

Three goal Nicole lead Dubs to U21 Title

Aisling McGing U21 All Ireland Final - Dublin won the counties’ first All Ireland U21 title today with an empathic 16 point win over Leinster rivals Meath in a contest that was played before a sizeable crowd in Clane, Co Kildare. The old saying that goals win games was again proven to be true as Dublin raised the green flag on no fewer than six occasions to see off their neighbors, Meath and Syl's Nicole Owens bagged three of the goals.

Syls young ladies overpowered by Foxrock Cabinteely.

Congratulations and well done to our senior ladies reaching the Senior Championship semi-final, a marvellous achievement coming from junior status three years ago. While we have some brilliant young players coming through we were missing five in Emer, Lucia, Ciara, Nicole and Kim and simply did not have enough strength in depth to threaten the more settled Foxrock team who had won the Championship two years ago. No worries, we have a great talent coming through and will be building on this years achievements. Well done to Dave McEvoy, Brian, and Declan for the leadership.

SYLS U16 GIRLS QUALIFY FOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

Syls Girls U16s beat Scoil Ui Conail to qualify for the Div3 Championship Final where they will play Naomh Olafs. Squad numbers have been very tight for this group in recent years and we didn't have enough players to field in the league earlier this year. However, thanks to great co-operation from the U15 and U14 players and management, we have a strong group who have played very well in the Championship and deserve their chance in the final which will take place on 19th October (venue to be confirmed).

Syl's Senior Ladies clinch Cup with facile win

Our Senior Ladies footballers won their first silverware of the year on Wednesday night by beating a very weak Lucan Sarsfields team by 5-13 to 0-1. Apart from a tendency to give the ball away too easily, this was an accomplished performance with all 19 players on view making solid contributions

Syls Ladies Gaelic Little Bit of History

Just a short note. In Syls. 111 year history Last Night 23 July 2014 was the first time we had two adult ladies teams playing side by side in Broomfield. The Seniors had a good Cup win V Lucan Sarsfields on pitch 2. On the other side of the hedge Pitch 4 the new Junior Team started their Championship Season (mid season) with a challenge V Fingallians. The Swords team won well on the scoreboard, but Syls put up a fighting spirited performance for their very first game. They start their Championship bid V Thomas Davis away on Monday 11 August 2014.
