Community Games Girls u12s

Thursday 12th May Broomfield, the sun shone but it was the quality of football that kept the crowd warm. Malahide v Skerries a clash that reminded some of the spectators of the great Dubs and Kerry clashes of the 80s. Malahide were still smarting from their semi final defeat to Clontarf by the narrowest of margins and were determined to right some wrongs. And the Malahide girls came roaring out of the blocks with some fine score taking on show and the tackle count soaring we took a 1 4 to 2 point lead into half time.

The wind was not our friend however and picked up considerably at half time and playing up a deceptive hill (pitch 4 ! ) the coaches knew it would be a difficult task and so it was. Skerries kicking 4 unanswered points 2 from out on the touchline and then a very fortuitous goal left it 1 6 to 1 4 and it looked bleak . But it s often said really good teams have to show courage and so the Malahide girls did. Each one of them seem to grow an inch or 2 in the final 10 mins and we rattled off 1 4 without reply to give a final score of Malahide 2 8 Skerries 1 6 and so clinch bronze medal.
A huge achievement by all the 16 players involved and one they should be very proud of.
