Minor Girls going well

The Minor Girls team had two great wins over the past couple of days. After losing the first match away to a very strong Fingallians side a few weeks back they played Raheny in Broomfield on Sunny Saturday and won the game by 12 points Syls 4-7 Raheny 1-4. They traveled to the other side of the Estuary on this cold wet windy Monday night where they beat St Pats of Donebate St Pats 0-1 Syls 0-4. The girls did not have a single official Minor Player (DOB 1994) on either night and they showed a great fighting spirit to win both games.

U14s leave it too late

U14F Div1 St Sylvesters St Johns Balinteer WE ere two points up at the break against the wind and, by all accounts, looking the stronger team. Nobody told Johns, however, who came out in the second half playing some fabulous football and knocking up 3-02 without reply before we got ourselves going again.

Ladies update

Another great weekend of results for sylvester's girls at both club and county level. Under 12 & U13 girls both had great league wins against Oliver Plunketts & Skerries. At Co level Kim White starred for the Dubs Minors in a big win against Louth. Our senior players travelled north to take on Donegal Ladies and came away with a big win and the points. Sinead Aherne bagged 2-5, Niamh McEvoy scored a goal and Nicole Owens got her first point for the senior Dubs. Sinead Tracey was rock solid at full back. Well done to all on another great weekend.

U13s and U14s get together for Cup football

With it being a hurling week-end and our 14 football team getting a bye in the first round of the U14 Football Cup , Syls u13s and u14s footballers played a challenge match in The Castle on Saturday afternoon. We had about 45 players and all players got a decent run. This will prepare our u14s for the cup competition and also help to integrate the both u14s football teams and u13 footballers for the Feile. Better than any training.

Syls first ever Ladies Minor Football Team

A lot of work has been done over the past number of weeks to enable Syls to enter our first Minor Girls Team in the History of the Club. They already have had a number of training sessions and many of players who have represented this team going back to 2005 are coming back. This is a very heartening development.

Syl's Ladies make it four!

A remarkable milestone was reached on Sunday last when four players from Syl' s Adult Ladies team, featured on the Dublin Ladies Senior team which defeated Meath in a tightly contested game in Ashbourne. The starting line up included Sinead Tracey at full back, Niamh Mc Evoy at full forward and Sinead Aherne at corner forward. Nicole Owens made her debut at Senior level when she came on as sub in the second half. Meath as always dominated in the height department and in the physicality of their game. Sinead Tracey was more than equal to the challenge in the back line and the absence of any goals from Meath tells its own story. The forward line had to contend with a Meath sweeper and a heavy pitch so space was at a premium. Dublin looked the stronger team and deserved their three point victory margin. A good day out for Syls ladies, recently promoted from Junior to Intermediate level.

Syls Niamh McEvoy lined out at midfield and put in a great performance throughout the match, scoring 1-4. Sinead Aherne was at her usual best in the full forward line and put 2-3 past the Kildare defence. Sinead Tracey came on at full back for the 2nd half and played a tight game to limit the Kildare scoring power.

Tough loss U14A

U14 Div1 We lost by a few points to Clontarf in Bridgefield in a fine looking game that went from end to end with good scores on both sides. This difference I suppose was a couple of goals for Clontarf, one from a penalty, in the second half against some real quality points from the Syls lads. I think we will be a little disappointed, might have won it.

U13H Div2 St Sylvesters 7-10 St Judes 2-06 Third in Div2 is a good showing for our u13s after a very strong second ha;f against Judes. It didn't look so good at half time with Judes gaining some dominence in the second quarter but we came out very strong in the second half.

Syls Ladies Leinster Junior Champions

Congratulations to the girls on winning the Leinster Junior Football Title at a wet windy Newbride yesterday, St Sylvesters 4-10 St Lawrence’s 0-18. By far our toughest game to date, the Kildare team had some very classy forwards and most of their scores came from open play. The girls were delighted with the traveling support from Malahide and look froward to an even bigger following to Aherlow (or thereabouts) in Tipperary for the All Ireland Semi Final in two weeks time.
