David Magrath Memorial match 16th Oct

The Magrath family have put up a trophy in memory of David, who sadly passed away four years ago. David was a key player on the St Sylvester's juvenile football team that won the club's first championship at under 15 on St Patrick's Day 1990, the under 16 Championship in 1991 and the County Minor Football Championship in 1992. David was on the Dublin Minor Hurling panel which reached the Leinster Final in 1993.

Sinead, Niamh and Nicole want to say a big Thank You to all our club supporters on Sunday. The massive support and attendance in Croke Park was deeply appreciated. Junior hurlers great comeback against Crokes

AHL6: Syls 1-16 Kilmacud Crokes 1-15, Sun 25th Sept 2016 Broomfield.Whe n you consider that at one stage Crokes were 8 points up, had also missed a penalty, you might be forgiven for thinking a win for Syls was not on the cards. But not for the first time in recent games, this team dug deep to get back into the game and then forged on to win.

U15s finish on a high in Div1

U15A Football League Division 1 After 14 games, the U15 Football League season ended on Sunday with a 4 point win away to Ballyboden. It really was a case of what could have been for this group of players; a slow start where we lost the first 4 games put us out of contention almost from the start.

Hurlers secure AHL3 status at Bodel

AHL3 Ballyboden St Endas 1-07 St Sylvesters 0-18 Good positive display gave us an eight point over fellow relagation strugglers BallyBoden, Boden drop down and we stay up with three games to play.Bit more confidence in the team this evening, lots of good points from Alan Kenny, Simonm Stephen Keogh, Danial Murphy. Graham was back at fullback and Kev Clarke played out a competitive battle against a handy looking #14. Richie and Enda covered the middle well in an all round decent display.

Minor Hurlers tough win at Finbarrs

Minor Hurlers tough win at Finbarrs

MFC B Naomh Fionnbarra 3-10 St Sylvesters 4-14 Another great Minor performance winning away to a very good Finbarrs. We opened with a five point lead but Finbarrs came back with two goals and a few points. We stuck to the task, I didn't see the second half but I heard Cooney hit 3-03 from play and the half I did see was excekllent from bothh sides. Fingallians and Marnóg drew so a win over Marnógs will see us into the semifinal although I'm sure our neighbours will not be holding the door open for us.

Senior finish the league with a good win

AFL1 Lucan Sarsfields 1-10 St Sylvesters 0-16 Four points to one down after ten minutes, we got on top around half back and midfield and quicker ball in to Conor and Niall yielded a string of good points to give us a temporary lead. A few mistakes at the back gave up a converted penalty and two points and we trailed by two for about 20 minutes over the break. We dominated the second half and made plenty of chances but it still took a long time to recapture the lead with a string of Coughlan and Meaney points and we weathered a late Lucan charge that yielded three points with some excellent defense.

U12s take Div1 football title with great win over Crokes

U12F Div1 An absolutely breathtaking game played at 100 miles an hour by two very committed and skillful teams. Syls came our on top over second placed Kilmacud Crokes by about 7 points in the end and we had some brilliant players on display. I'll leave it to Paudge to give the details if he has a chance. Some photos attached but they couldn't do justice to this fine game.

Junior hurlers in playoff position

Junior hurlers in playoff position

AHL6: Syls 2-12 Civil Service 1-13, Sun 11th Sept 2016 Broomfield. An important win that moves us into the playoff positions. We traded points in the first 20 minutes with Colm Boran orchestrating midfield, providing some fine deliveries that saw Dan & Seanie combine several times to produce a couple of excellent scores. Civil Service deployed 2 big lads at nos 11 and 14 and they did damage with some no-nonsense hurling, high ball, catch, point. We clawed back a HT 3 point deficit to level it at 8 points apiece midway through the 2nd half but the quick concession of 1-2 had us 5 behind in a blink.

Hurlers lose in C'ship at Barróg

Hurlers lose in C'ship at Barróg

SHC B Naomh Barróg 2-13 St Sylvesters 0-10 We dominated the early exchanges but didn't take enough scores from some good ball winning up front. Collie Byrne took most of our scores from frees and , while Tony Dunne took off a string of great saves, Barrógs more accurate forwards hit two goals and some lovely points. We lost Killian to a second yellow mid second half and although we fought hard we couldn't bridge the gap.

Great fight from Minors against Clontarf

Great fight from Minors against Clontarf

MHF A St Sylvesters 4-18 Clontarf 5-15 We led by a point at the death but Clontarf scraped an equaliser and, for the second week in a row we drew in the Championship from a winning position althoug, yet again, a draw was not an unfair result. Clontarf are top of Div1 so it was a bit of a step up for our lads but they showed the best fight I have seem from a Sylvesters in a long while and I'm now looking forward to a few more crackers against Boden and Crokes. There were some great displays but I'll leave it to one of the lads to report if they have a chance.

Fundraiser for Fr Felix Bannigan

Fundraiser for Fr Felix Bannigan

Brendan Bannigan (who, with Mick Stuart worked for 6 years to bring about the hurling wall which is such a great facility for Syls) and Francine (our PRO for about the same 6 or 6 years) ran a fundraiser for Brendan's brother Fr Felix Bannigan. The dance and raffle were last night and Brendan would like to thank all his friends in the club who supported and attended. Just because you missed it does not mean you can't still buy a ticket and I have even attached a Big Tom piece so you won't feel left out(there was a big Monaghan gang at the dance). Fr Felix has been working with the poorest in Nicaragua for 30 years in the same spirit as some of the greatest Irish people who give so selflessly to help others. Felix always visits Syls with Brendan and his lovely sisters when in Ireland and he's a smashing guy.
