Club position re Bridgefield and Broomfield

Dear Club Members, Further to the Club’s communication on July 5th in regards to proposed Bridgefield Redevelopment I would like to clarify and reassure members about our continued use of Bridgefield. St Sylvesters will continue to have use of 2 pitches after the proposed Development on which our Juvenile teams play. An equivalent large pitch will be retained and will be supplemented with a Go-Games sized pitch. The playing surface of the large pitch will be subject to a badly needed upgrade as part of this programme.

Dublin Minor Ladies lose out in a cracker

Dublin Minor Ladies lose out in a cracker

The Dublin minor girls just missed out in a grandstand last quarter against defending champions Cork in the All Ireland Final in Longford. Syls Danielle Lawless scored a point and was involved in a few more for the Dubs who trailed by 8 points at one stage but battled back very gamely and were a little unlucky not to draw level in ythe last few minutes. See the report attached from the LGFA website. Alsio a few pictures of Danielle from the Armagh semifinal.

Looks like a great outing, pictures from Peter Hickey. Many thanks to Mayobridge GAA Club in Co Down for a memorable day out and what a great lineup of clubs, Scotstown Burren, Crossmaglen, Ballinderry, many more, some of the greats of Gaelic Football. Here's pic with our boys with the Cross lads (The Real Madrid of GAA, according to the kids) Joe Brolly even gave the pic of the boys a retweet on Twitter!

Minor A Hurlers finish on a high

Report attached from the Minor A hurling game played at the same time as the B hurlers were playing at Oldtown. I must say all the minor games I've seen this year in both football and hurling have been excellent and I'm looking forward to the championships starting in September.

MHL5 League Final Wild Geese 1-14 St Sylvesters 2-06 We lost by five points after a fine competitive game to Wild Geese. Syls started well with two excellent early goals from Sean Drumm but the home side picked away at us, their numbers 8 and 12 hitting some excellent points, Brian Murray and Gavin Hydes responding for us. We lost Murray to injury at half time, he looked very uncomfortable and I believe he went for treatment so hope he is ok. That knocked us back a little in the second half but stayed within three points until the last few minutes. Great achievement fielding a second competitive hurling team. Congrats to Wild Geese, they are really pushing hurling in Fingal and great credit to them,

AHL 8 Update - going well

AHL 8 Update - going well

The Junior B hurling team heads into the 3-week competition break in a healthy state. In the league, we had a good win over promotion rivals Wild Geese on 30th June by 0-17 to 1-10 where Colm O Connor’s 11 points were the winning of the game. Immediately after was another league match on Leinster Hurling final morning against Na Gael Oga out in St Catherine’s Pk when Gary Plunkett, flanked by Kieran Canny gave a great full back display in a 0-11 to 1-4 win with Deccy Markey in good scoring form.

Inter hurlers lose to Olafs

AHL3 We lsot by 4 in the end but this was a game we easily could have won, we simply hit too many wides at critical times and our heads seemed to drop late in the game. We lost earlier in the week to Finbarrs in the Championship but, unlike that game, I thought we looked the better team on Saturday and was disapppinted the way we fell away. Falvey scored a cracking early goal, Alan Kenny and Dara Flaherty were solid at the back and Killian was the pick of the forwards.

Minors lose at Lusk

MFL2 GrB We ended up losing by five points but had been much further behind in the last quarter against a handy looking Lusk outfit. Beautiful morning with a good crowd, we never reached the intensity achieved against Marnógs earlier in the week.

Seamus Begley visited Syls

Regulars at our clubhouse had a nice treat on Friday when Danny brought Irish Trad legend Seamus Begley by to say hello. Seamus, not a stranger to Syls, played a few tunes and reminded us that we should have a bit of music in the club from time to time. maith fear, go raibh maith agat.

The Team of '96 - 20 years on

Brian Talty reminded me to mention that it was 20 years since Syls won our only ever Dublin Senior Football Championship. I took a look at my archives, courtesy of Brian Colgan a few years ago, and was struck by the number of lads still very involved in coaching, some still playing, a great tribute to St Sylvesters.. Have a root through the pictures and news clippings, pretty cool stuff. I think Talty said he was going to buy a pint some evening, maith fear, mines a Guinness.

Facility improvements in Broomfield

Facility improvements in Broomfield

Led by Liam Foley a small group of volunteers gave up their time for the 2nd Saturday in a row and tackled the hedging , balls stops on pitch2 and our sponsors signs on the pitch 1. Liam brought some machinery for height access to tie up the ball stop nets. The lads also tidied up the hedging allowing much easier access if any balls end up in the ditch. They also removed the rubbish from the dressing rooms and Liam has committed to do this on a weekly basis.

Junior As beat Crumlin

AFL5 Lively game on pitch two and an important win for Syls. I was particularly impressed with the running and point scoring of Alex Wright, it's been a while since I've seen him play.. Andy at full back and Airy at Centre give us a solid defense and with lads like Niall Higgens, Kevin Lynott, Eoin Hammill we had a good side out for our fourth adult game of the weekend.
