Ollies win Fingal Primary Schools League

St Oliver Plunketts Girls gaelic football team have a great win in the final of the Fingal Primary schools league. The final of the Fingal National Schools League was played in Parnell Park on Tuesday, 14th May, with Ollies facing off against Skerries. This was the same Ollies team that had endured heartache in Croker earlier in the year when losing the Cumann na mBunscoil final. But they made no mistake this time. This was a very hard fought victory and the girls had to show great belief.

Then again any team that has such storied Syls names as McCarthy, Troy, Guiden and Barnes on a teamsheet would be expected to have a certain "will to win"!!!

Ollies went in a point down at half time and were 5 points into the 2nd half. However they dug deep and stayed playing their football. The opportunities were created and the girls were both calm and skillful enough to take these chances and eventually ran out 9 point winners. But that does not show how close the game really was.

There was a great celebration back on the Syls clubhouse that evening, one of the highlights was the girls spontaneously parading the cup around the village.

Great credit to Ms Quinn, and the other teachers for coaching this group of players all year. To Mr Curran for his support and great speech making and to all of the parents and coaches who have worked with the girls over the years.
