The “Handsome Devils” and beautiful football.
The Brendan Mullarkey Memorial Trophy brought out enough hardy souls for a four team competition in Gannon Park yesterday. Declan McGrath and Philip O Connor organised and pay to play funds went to the Nicky Cleere Trust. The more experienced players were divided up and complemented by the younger players who could actually run and play the game. Niamh McEvoy and her friend played some beautiful football but were hampered by the lack of mobility in their fellow teammates. Rueben Kirrane scored a superb goal against the eventual winners but again some of the “more experienced” players on his team failed to perform on the day.

Football . . .I feel a little cheated
I enjoy a good game of football and was really looking forward to the season finale with our Senior and Minor footballers on top of their leagues and looking competitive. I've already whinged about what I felt were very unsatisfactory exits from the championships but, whatever, sure we've a couple of League Finals to shout about. What happened, how come we haven't been shouting then.
Sam came to Syls on Sunday

Name That Team 1997
Joe Burke has a case of Dom (or was that a pint and a glass of rasberry) for the first person to name this U9 team from 1997 - taken before the u9 final which they won beating Trinity Gaels. Six of this team are currently playing adult football .... Can you pick them out? Two are playing hurling.
Senior League win over Vincents
AFL1 St Sylvesters 2-13 St Vincentsa 1-15 Both sides started with a bit of a hangover from Championship defeats and the first half was a tame enough affair, notwithstanding Syls leading by 5 at the break. The second half livened up and there were some excellent points from both sides, Darren, David and Michael contributing for Syls, Gary, Gavin and Ross making the plays, Fionn and Cian doing well at the back. Thanks to Grainne McKinney from Vincents for the pictures.
Inters and ladies lift St Sylvester's
Victories in championship and a Leinster final raise spirits at club after senior footballers bow out of Dublin SFC.
Inters didn't bring their A game
IFC QF St Sylvesters 1-04 St Judes 2-08 A pretty solid first half up the hill seemed to set us up for a chance to take this quarter final but it didn't turn out that way as Judes used the space to far better effect in the second half a ran out easy winners in the end.
Seniors lose to Parnells after extra time
SFC Syls 2-09 Parnells 1-18 AET (1-08 : 0-11 FT) You'll have to check Hill16 for a report, I'm just very disappointed for the lads and the management who worked so hard this year to put a strong challenge in this competition.
Inters great win in gloomy Naul
IFC St Sylvesters 2-07 Ballymun Kickams 1-06 It seemed very ambitious to be starting an Inter Championship game at 5.00pm in the Naul on Saturday, it was almost dark, exagarated by the car lights down the far sideline. The first half was a reflection of the mood, both sides slow to find their rythm, nice points from Keith and Darren coming from the back were the highlights and we managed to lead 0-4 to 0-3 at the break.

Inter Footballers fall away late in Joy Cup Final
Joy Cup Final St Sylvesters 0-08 Na Fianna 2-08 It was level with about 15 minutes remaining, we were playing down the hill with the wind but Na Fianna seemed to find another gear and ran convincing winners.
Senior Footballers reach league semi final
For the third year in a row the Senior Footballers have reached the Div1 League playoffs, a remarkable achievement in this very competitive league. Yesterday we won over Trinity Gaels 2-15 to 0-07 at Druimnigh. Well done to all and best of luck with the upcoming Championship and League playoffs.
Inters pushing hard for Senior status
AFL3 St Vincents 0-09 St Sylvesters 1-13 Yet another fine win pushes us into promotion contention to AFL2 and two senior teams at Syls. Today we looked very strong against an a good competitive Vincents team, leading 1-06 to 0-05 ( Mannix got he goal) at the break after having wind advantage, excellent early points by Alan Sexton and Mannix settled us on the restart and we were always 4 or 5 ahead, one brilliant point by Dominic McMahon probably the highlight (and no mention of Himo's late goal effort) . Vincents did get a late penalty but I'd swear Philly saved it although the ref waved wide.
Two good wins in Broomfield
Two great wins last night in Broomfield by the Senior and Inter teams making the last couple of league games all the more important and both moving one step closer to league semi finals. Good turnout by the supporters which was great to see as well....... AFL1 Syls 0-15 Templeogue 0-04 AFL3 Syls 0-15 Clann Mhuire 0-08 I saw a little of the Senior game, we led 0-10 to-0-04 at the break. Andy Elebert made his senior debut in goal and even managed to save any point efforts from Synger in the second half, pretty impressive eh! The only comment I got from the Inter game was about Alan Sexton rattling posts!! . . . oh, yeh, and Carney and Deccie were pretty pleased with the display.

Junior win late over Isles
AFL9 Syls 0-13 Erins Isle 2-06 Another late comeback with a winning point by Eoin Kelly saw the Junior2 team continue their impressive winning run at Broomfield.
Inters delighted with display at Margarets
AFL3 St Margarets 0-10 St Sylvesters 0-13 In a complete reverse of the senior game over at Broomfield, the Inters came back from a poor first half where they trailed 0-8 to 0-3 at the break and went a further point behind on the restart to win in style and keep their promotion hopes alive. Key to the victory was a great half back line of Paudi Tracy, Derek Roche and Dominic McMahon. Collie Burke hit 4 points, Alan Foy three, David Bannigan two, Mark Reilly two, Mannix and Ciaran Byrne. Alan Sexton was adamant he did actually hit one wide but the lads were dubious about that.
Disappointing loss in Senior League
AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-14 Thomas Davis 3-09 Caught at the death to lose a game we had wrapped up from early on but just didn't create enough of a cushion for ourselves. We were cruising through the first half, Glennon pulling the strings, Clarke, Nigel, Jockser and David pointing, Aido hitting a trademark leftfooter to the net. Mixups in the fullback line gave up two softish goals however and we only lead by two at the break.
Juniors make it two in a row
AFL6 St Sylvesters 2-10 Cuala 2-07 Avery entertaining game in Broomfield with a fairly decent crowd in attendance. We dominated most of the first half racing into 1-3 to 0-1 lead. Killian O'Flynn cut through for a super goal, Eoin Kelly and John Conway a few points and we led by about six at the break. We extended the lead and then sat on our laurels for a while as Cuala clawed their way back, thanks partly to two converted penalties.
Inters reach Joy Cup Final
Joy Cup Semi Final Syls 1-12 St Brigids 0-11 AET. Well done to the Inters. Heard they were down to 14 men after 10 mins in the first half and battle hard to win the game. Final vs Na Fianna
Seniors look very strong at Rowlestown
AFL1 Fingal Ravens 0-6 St Sylvesters 1-16 I only saw the second half, Darren Clarke pointing a free to put us 0-6 to 0-5 just on the restart but it was pretty much all Syls from there on. Couple more points from Darren then a kickout from Robbie beat the midfield for Darren to find Nigel who setup Glennon for a goal. Ross and John were again ver dominent and with support from John Murphy, Russy, Beano and Colie Mc we were simply too strong for Ravens who battled to the end.
Juniors caught at the death
JFC C St Sylvesters 1-12 Renelagh Gaels 1-14 After Extra Time. Brendan billed this as the game of the week and the big crowd that showed up were not disappointed. It was a great game which we nearly won, six points up with 10 minutes to play, still three up as we went two minutes into overtime but they caught us with an equalising goal and were just that little bit stronger in extra time.
Game of the week, don't miss it...........be there
St Sylvesters V Ranelagh Gaels in Broomfield on Thursday 14th at 19:30 Niall Halligans junior football team take on opposition that are two league divisions ahead of them in this championship match next Thursday in Broomfield at 7.30pm. Make it your business to get there and support this fantastic team.
Juniors win well over Lucan
AFL 9 Sylvesyrts v Lucan Sarsfields. Sunday 3rd July In a beautiful morning in Broomfield, 10.30 match, Sylvesters had a very good win by 2-11 to 1-8 over a physically strong Lucan team. Short a good few regular players, the team performed very well. Syls led at half time due to a late goal by Ronnie Carroll, high catch, turn and a blast to the net. Eoin Burke in goals kept us in it with 2 brilliant saves.
Any win in Saggart is a good one
AFL1 St Marys 0-14 St Sylvesters 2-9 Hard to describe this game, we led from start to finish, we were 1-4 to 0-2 up early, Nigel scoring the goal, Jockser and Ross dominating in the middle, went completely out of it for 1/2 hour but still won, almost comfortably, by a single point. Bit of a new look with Gavin McArdle at full back again and Colm McIntyre looking very comfortable at centre back.
