Great win for Inters over Clontarf

AFL3 St Sylvesters 0-12 Clontarf 1-6 Very impressive wins for our intermediate team against a strong looking Clontarf. No doubt this win was built on some great defending especially an interception by Stephen Finnegan, a fabulous diving save by Aiden Lawlor and another in the second half by Dominic McMahon. David Keogh and Kevin McKeon dominated and a strong half back line of Paudie Tracy, Airy Cleere and Dominic McMahon made it difficult for Clontarf after an early flutter.

Minors join Seniors in Leinster Final

Dublin defeated Kildare this evening in the Leinster Minor semi final at Parnell Park. I was disappointed our lads, Eoin Boyne and Conor Meaney didn't start as advertised but Conor did come on in the second half. Good luck in the final lads, I think it is the curtain raiser to the senior final, makes it a great day out for the lads, as it should be.

Seniors win tough game over Brigids

AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-12 St Brigids 1-09 Great win sees us leapfrog Brigids back to second place in the league after a very tough but fair game at Broomfield. Once again Micháel and Darren were our biggest scoring threat contributing 9 points between them, Clarke continuing the super form displayed for Louth last weekend where he contributed 1-8 (and he wasn't originally picked to start, ach sin scéal eile, I digress). David Glennon, one point, completed a busy full forward line in the absence of Nigel (county tied by the resurgent Offaly) and he combined well with the ever hard working Russy (1), Eoin Fanning(1) and Andrew Hartnett in our half line.

Junior footballers win in Championship

Big Niall is accusing me of bias for not reporting the great Junior Championship win out in the wilds of Drimnagh against Good Counsel last week. I will admit to being slow to write anything negative about The Counsel and I did promise Niall to get a report on the game but business (chasing rather than doing) intervened and I missed the trip. Heard we were a lot younger and ran out convincing winners. Niall is very excited about the way this team is developing so we may looking for silverware again this year. Hopefully someone will start reporting and send a fee pictures, many of our teams are not covered on the web and it's a great pity.

Micháel knocking on the Dubs door

Bernard and Declan pointed me to this report where Micháel McCarthy contributed 2-6 in a training game of Dublin Blues v Whites at the weekend confirming his consistent scoring for Syls - it would be great for the club (and Mick himself, of course) to have a player involved on the big stage, we wish you well.

Seniors lose at Na Fianna

AFL1 Na Fianna 1-13 St Sylvesters 0-11 Sounded like we we weren't as close as the scorline suggests in this top of the table clash. First loss of the season - Brigids at home on Tuesday 28th

Seniors win over Crokes in the league

AFL1 St Sylvesters 2-15 Kilmacud Crokes 0-16Always a great win when we beat Crokes at any grade, even better when they are Leinster Champions and we play well against them. John Coughlan was back to his best at centre back and midfield, catching some great ball and rising to the challenge of the big Crokes midfield. Our full forward line are really starting to gel as a unit and I'm now really looking forward to the business end of the season as all modern winning teams feature good, scoring inside forward lines (We have hope for the Dubs now with Connolly and the two Brogans). Nigel contributed a great goal, Darren nine points (is it ok if I whinge that Louth don't pick him, lads be serious, he's a class act) and Micháel again forming a deadly partnership with the two boys.

Seniors draw at Ballymun in the league

AFL1 Ballymun Kickams 0-17 St Sylvesters 1-14 Probably a fair result, Kickams lead 13 to 8 at half time after playing with the wind, some smashing points by Ted Furhman probably the highlight, he should be back with the Dubs with the form he showed here. Nigel and MIcháel responded with some of ours, Russy, Eoin and Campers working hard in the half line. It took a long while to get close in the second half, still 6 behind after 15 minutes but then we got a big boost, John Murphy made his first appearance since picking up a bad injury last Summer against Plunkets.

Syls and the Dubs

I'm hearing that a few of our lads getting a run in the Dublin Football setup - Stephen Scuby Cunningham has joined Eoin Boyne and Conor Meaney on the Dublin Minor panel, Shane O'Connor featured in the Junior team that defeated Wicklow at Parnell Park last week and Micháel McCarthy scored for the Dublin 'Possibles' i a friendly senior football game over the weekend. We wish you all much luck.

Seniors draw with Ballyboden in league

AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-10 Ballyboden St Endas 1-10 Very mixed display, Boden went two points up, we took over completely for about 20 minutes and didn't play a lot after that. Russy Cleere lead the charge early on from full forward with a couple of points and a great solo goal, Ross, Gavin and Shane dominated the middle and Gary, Eoin F and Ross contributed a few more points and we led 1-7 to 0-2. Boden came back with a fine goal, Dominic in goal for us and the Boden keeper both made good saves and we were 1-7 to 1-4 at the break.

Conor Sammon makes his mark on Premiership

Conor scored the equaliser for Wigan which committed West Ham to the Championship next year - he'll need a repeat performance at Stoke next week to have any chance of saving Wigan from the same fate.

Seniors win again in Championship - impressive display

SFC Rd2 St Sylvesters 1-13 Parnells 0-10 Again a more convincing win than the scoreline suggests, in my opinion by far the best performance I've seen from this team. We started well against a strong wind, Darren pointed and might even have gone low, Micháel pointed from the left and then Nigel goaled after a mistake in the 'Nells back line. Parnells tacked on points, mostly very impressive frees from Tierney and Murtagh, many of them from our having to clear into the wind. We trailed 0-8 to 1-4 at the break but I think our good following were confident we were going well.

Inters impress after slow start in C'ship

IFC St Sylvesters 0-19 St Pats Donabate 0-7 Colin Burke scored 10 points in a man of the match performance at Balgriffen last night. We started a little slowly and Pats looked comforratbel at 0-5 to 0-2 but we got our second wind after 20 minutes and finished the first half with 6 unanswered points. We simply continued into the second half with Derek and Mark Maher in command in defense, Digger and David Keogh strong in the middle and the forward line using the space to good effect.

Seniors through to second round

SFC Rd1 St Sylvesters 1-13 Ballymun Kickams 0-10 We won more comfortably than the scoreline suggests against one of our greatest rivals over the past five years. Both sides were quite nervous early, Kickams putting our fullback line under a lot of pressure but Fionn, Collie and Cian stood up well and we actually led by 3 points to 2 after the first quarter - a magnificent free from the right corner by Micháel, a typical Darren effort and a class point on the run from new boy Nigel Dunne. Then Micháel isolated his marker under a long high delivery and scored a great goal. 1-6 to 0-3 at half time and the game was surprisingly over as a contest.

Another impressive senior league win

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-22 Lucan Sarsfields 2-9 First evening game of the year, Syls were in a very free flowing mood against a Lucan side we ususlly struggle against. 13 points to 1-4 at the break, we scored some classic points and only gave up the goal to a mistimed bounce and 3 points to frees. The Lucan forward line was were more dangerous in the second half scoring some good points and were back to a deficit of 4 with 10 minutes remaining but we finished out the stronger with points from Michael and McGurk.

Seniors still unbeaten - lucky to draw

AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-13 Parnells 0-16 A late goal from Colm Hanratty secured a draw against a strong Parnells side at St Davids. Nells lead 0-9 to 0-7 at the break after some nice long range points. Our backline stood up to some constant pressure, especially the full line of Fionn, Cian and Aiden Lalor.WE were back to level going into the closing stages when Parnells tacked on 3 points and were looking good until Campers struck with the equalising goal. Michael McCarthy contributed a whopping 11 points from frees and play.

Mouthguards for Juvenile players

As children get older and have their adult teeth the risk of damage in a game increases, in addition it is likely that mouth shields will become compulsory in the near future. With this in mind St Sylvesters and Dr Stephen Gallagher of Swords Orthodontucs are delighted to announce this new initiative. The idea of the initiative is to measure and fit all players from 9-18 with a proper gumshield. Stephen and his staff have set aside the 29th of April ( part of Easter School holidays) to measure as many Syls players as possible. We hope to fix the cost at between €5-€10 which is very cheap for this product. Stephens children attend the Cul Cubs Nursery every Saturday and we are delighted that he is able to give something back to the club in this manner. For any parents interested please read the consent form and contact the Surgery to make an appointment. Ernie

Seniors win again

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-14 - 1-9 St Judes There was a cold biting wind sweeping towards the school end and we played reasonably well in the 1st half against it, going in 6 to 4 up at HT. Despite scoring the 1st point of the 2nd half we found it hard to break down Judes packed defence in the 3rd quarter and Judes hit back with a point and then a goal to go in front 10 mins into 2nd half, they then tagged on 2 pts and led 1.7 to 7 with 15 mins left. However, we got to grips in the middle third & drove on with some great points from Miceal, Russy & Eoin Fanning to deservingly win by 2.

Inters lose at Ballyboden

The Inters lost their AFL3 match away to Ballyboden 1-6 to 1-7. Very disappointed to lose this game as we were 6 points up with 20 minutes to go but just couldn't close it out. A disappointing start to the league campaign with two losses but there are a lot of positives to take from the games and we are confident that we can get the campaign back on track over the next few matches.

AFL1 St Oliver Plunkets ER 0-5 St Sylvesters 2-12 . This was a really great start to the new season, winning comfortably in the end at Martin Savage Park against these great rivals.
