AFL4 playoff ends in a draw after extra time

Lovely morning out in the Naul, North Dublin looking forward to Spring. Syls never recreated the pre Christmas form when we literally blew O'Dwyers away, maybe the cold and windy conditions worked against us as we never opened them up and let the opposition pull us into a bit of a dogfight.

St Sylvesters 0-13 O'Dwyers 1-10

We played with the wind in the first half, went two points down but dominated to lead 8 to 4 at the break, thanks to some nice shooting from Niall Coughlan, Philly Daly and Micháel McCarthy. Shay Keogh had a goal disallowed for square ball just before the whistle which would have given us a little comfort.

It took a long time for either side to score in the second half but Dwyers drew level of one of their many high balls into our square punched to the net - no different in my eyes to Shay's effort, but, there ye go. We scored two points on the break but the introduction of Gary Sweeney, Ciaran Fahey and Ronan Palmer failed to open up the opposition on the break. 0-10 to 1-7 at full time.

In extra time we knocked up a quick three point lead, all nice efforts from Andrew Hartnett, Keogh and McCarthy. We couldn't get another on the break and the inevitable frees gave Dwyers a draw with the last kick.

Stephen Finnegan had a nasty injury, I think he hit the post while covering a long shot - hope he is Ok - replaced by Des Barnes who did well for the remainder. The pick of the Syls displays was possibly Andrew Hartnett from left halfback.
