Intermediate Hurling Championship, round 5

St Peregrines 2-13, St Sylvesters 4-13. Saturday 18 th Sept in Hartstown

Although both teams were out of contention in the championship there was a 5th place at stake and the prospect of playing the bottom team in the other section in the relegation play-off. Sylvesters started very strongly and raced into a 10-point lead midway through the first half with goals from the in form duo of Martin Ormonde and Colm O Connor and led at half time by 2-9 to 1-5. Peregrines piled on the pressure in the second half but Sylvesters kept responding to each point with one of their own. Anthony Dunne was assured in goals and Damian Rooney and David Keogh were solid in a back line led by Enda O Flahery at centre back. Dave Casey was strong throughout at midfield and subs Cillian O Riordan and Kieran Falvey made impacts when introduced. Scorers Martin Ormonde (2-8, 4 f), Colm O Connor (2-1), Dave Casey (0-2,1f), Russie Cleere and Dara O Flaherty 0-1 each.

Junior D Hurling Championship Quarter final

Naomh Olaf 0-8, St Sylvesters 1-8 Sunday 19th Sept Pairc Ui Bhroin

At half time, things looked bleak for Sylvesters as we trailed 0-2 to 0-7 and were lucky not to be further behind. However with wind assistance in the second half and although conceding a point after 2 minutes Syls were lifted by an early Johnny Conway goal and began to put Olafs under pressure. The gap was down to one point with 15 minutes to go following a Niall O Connor point from a narrow angle and then followed 10 minutes of stalemate, during which man-of-the-match Des Lehane led the defence and his work was complimented in no small way by Ciaran Murray at full and Ronan Kennedy . Then a converted 65 by Niall O Connor and points from Johnny Conway(2) and Neil Branigan in the last 5 minutes delivered a hard earned victory. Scorers Johnny Conway (1-2), Niall O Connor (0-5, 3f, 65), Neil Branigan (0-1)
