Brave effort not enough in Senior Championship

Everyone was very disappointed but also very proud of our senior team when we lost by 1-14 to 1-11 in the championship in bad conditions at Parnell Park this evening - it was a great game of football in the conditions . . . . good support from Malahide and plenty came back for a beer afterwards ....Pictures from Garret White of the Herald, many thanks

ST OLIVER PLUNKETTTS/EOGHAN RUADH 1-14 ST SYLVESTERS 1-11

Plunketts were made battle all the way to the finishing line in this Evening Herald Dublin SFC fourth round tie at a wet and windy Parnell Park on Wednesday night.
A 19th minute goal from Alan Brogan gave Plunketts the initiative after a very even opening spell and by the interval the Navan Road side held a 1-6 to 0-8 interval lead.
Syls inside forwards had looked dangerous at times in this opening half while Brian Sexton kicked a superb 15th minute point.
However, with wind advantage to come Plunketts looked poised to strike. Five unanswered points on the restart from the Dublin 7 side saw them suddenly move six points clear but Syls dug in and made their opponents battle to the end.
Bernard Brogan got the first three of that five-point salvo, all off his left foot, with points from Jason Sherlock and David Matthews making it 1-11 to 0-8.
But back came Syls when Shane Roche punched powerfully to the net from an Eoin Fanning cross with 15 minutes still to play.
Syls got as close as two points on two occasions late on but could not close it any more despite Plunketts being reduced to 14 men late on.
