Close . . but no cigar in Senior Championship

We lost cos we scored less than the opposition. Well dooh!! We made about the same number of chances but didn't score enough from distance and Kickams got a few telling points in the last 10 minutes that was the difference. Not a bad performance against a fine Ballymun team but, well . . . .

SFC St Sylvesters 0-11 Ballymun Kickams 0-12

Bit of a heartbreak for the lads, started well but only had one point to show for early dominance, fell behind five to one before we got back into the game but were probably a little unlucky to obly be level, six apiece, at the break.

We came out firing on all cylinders - dominated for about 18 minutes but, again, only had a three point lead to show for a fine passage of football - a free from Aiden Relihan, a fabulous point from the fifty by Darren Clarke and a fine point on the run from new man, Diarmuid Kinsella. Barry Ryan and Ted Furman were having a great battle which went a slightly OTT and they were both a little unlucky to be red carded. Syls had a few late attacks but couldn't create the right opportunity.

We won't be too despondent, however, and this year we will look to the back door as a real opportunity to get back in the mix.

REPORT FROM HILL16 - Connolly late hero for Kickhams

BALLYMUN KICKHAMS 0-12 ST SYLVESTER’S 0-11

A late long-range Karl Connolly point saw Ballymun overcome Syls in dramatic fashion in this Evening Herald Dublin SFC first round duel at Balgriffin on Thursday night.
Kickhams started very well and opened up a 0-6 to 0-1 advantage after just 15 minutes but the Syls midfield of John Coughlan and Diarmuid Kinsella began to get a foothold and with Darren Clarke in form up front they turned the game around.
Approaching the final ten minutes the Malahide outfit moved three points clear but two Ted Furman and another from Derek Byrne brought the sides level. Then Connolly broke Syls hearts with his brilliant winning score.
