Feile Football report - belated

Sorry I'm late posting this report - Feile this year ended in disappointment for our under 14s as we failed to qualify out of the group stage, having lost Daniel denneher to injury a week before the tournament the lads were always going to have it all to do.

Our first game v Lucan ended with a 4 point win, having taken a while to settle into the game the lads eventually got to grips with a spirited Lucan side and ran out comfortable enough winners, Aj McCabe and Sean daly grabbing vital goals at very important times in the game.

Our second game started disastrously for us as we were caught cold in the first 10 minutes conceding 3 very soft goals, but in fairness to the lads and led by Daniel Brennan the team set about clawing their way back into the game, and with 10 minutes remaining had got the game back to a 2 point game, however in our desperate efforts to find a winning score we were caught on the break and conceded another goal which left us with too much to do with so little time left eventually going down on a score line of 5-2 to 1-10.

We had kilmacud in our last game and needing a win to advance and having lost the very influential jack Whelan to a hamstring injury in the first match all of syls reserves were going to be tested to the limits, in a very tight game no more could have been asked of the lads as we lost the big hearted Colm Casey before the game and then full back Ben o Neill suffered an ankle injury and had to be replaced after 10 minutes, the game remained very tight throughout and as we entered injury time Luke Hughes was cynically pulled down as he was about to pull the trigger at the end of one of his famous marauding runs, a 14 yard free resulted and as a draw was no good to us with results going the way they were in the other game, Daniel Brennan was instructed to go for goal, dan hit a pile driver that was stopped by one of the 10 kilmacud players on the line, the ball rebounded to dan and as he was about to finish to the net was dragged to the ground by 2 opposing defenders, the whistle blew and we jumped for joy as we expected a penalty, however the referee in his wisdom decided a hop ball was the punishment that such an offence warranted. The drama wasn't quite finished as big joe Haughey won it and fed Marcus young 7 yards from goal and Marcus let fly with a goal bound shot only for a defender to throw himself at Marcus feet first which, again we expected to result in a penalty, however again the ref ignored our pleas and as the ball fell to Marcus he let fly with his effort only to see it fly narrowly wide. The final whistle went and a very tired and emotional group of players, management and parents fell to their knees in what felt like a major injustice. After bringing a panel of 23 players, we ended up with 16 fit players on a day where the gods seemed to be against us. Special mention must go to Aaron lynch and Daniel Brennan who left nothing behind them in their efforts to drag Sylvesters to a semi final, they were ably assisted by Osian Dullaghan, the butler twins, josh Reinhardt, Conor Mulcahy and Marcus young who was a revelation when forced into an unfamiliar role in midfield.

After the initial disappointment of losing out on a semi place the lads gathered in the club for refreshments and had a great night along with all the parents, special mention on the after party must go to celine McCabe and willie Fitzpatrick who kept the troops entertained with some great songs.(special thanks to celine for singing Paul reinhardts favourite song of all time)

Well done to all involved on the day and in the organisation and fundraising especially to paddy Miskelly who pulled out some amazing stunts to make sure all the lads looked the part on the day.
