Great display by hurlers goes unrewarded

IHC St Sylvesters 1-13 Whithall 0-17 Very disappointed not to get at least the draw after one of our best displays against a very strong Whithall. There was a great intensity to this game with the lead changing hands frequently. Whitehall moved into a strong lead in the first half but a late Des Lehane goal and a point brought us level at the break.

We took over for a long time in the second half and points from Ormonde, Stephen Keogh, Alan Morris and Andrew Richardson gave us a three point lead. Unfortunately Dave Keogh had to come off with a hand injury and this allowed Whitehall back into the game and they reeled off five points in a row and led by two going into overtime. Alan pulled back one, Martin pointed from the half way line to draw but Whitehall were awarded a free off the puckout which they scored to win by one.

As ever, Hillary was top class in the nets, Padraig, especially in the second half, and Ronan Kennedy defended well as did both Alan and Graham Morris, (Graham is having a great season in both codes).  Andrew and Russy held the middle fairly well while Stephen Keogh and Killian O'Flynn are adjusting very well to this grade of hurling.

There was a reasonable crowd in attendance and the consensus was that this was a really good performance by our lads and we have high hopes for the season.
