Great week for Syls Football
This was the biggest week of the season so far for our adult footballer with all four team involved in championship action and who would have thought that come Friday morning after all the games had been played that all 4 teams would be looking forward to the next rounds of their respective championships.
This extraordinary week started off on Tuesday in Broomfield with the first junior team taking on St. Jude’s in the quarter final of the Junior B championship and after a shaky enough first half the lads settled into the game and produced the kind of football that we have come to expect from this team. We ran out comfortable winners in the end and now look forward the semi-final in two weeks time against the winners of the Na Fianna / Ballinteer St. Johns quarter final clash.Next up were the seniors who traveled out to O’Toole Park on Wednesday evening to face AFL 2 outfit Ballinteer St. Johns. This proved to be a comfortable enough game for our lads as they coursed into the last 16 with a 19 point victory. Next up for the seniors is the little known Navan Road outfit Oliver Plunkett’s E/R
On paper the Intermediates probably faced the toughest task of all our teams when they took on Brian Talty’s Clan Na Gael Fontenoy in Parnell Park yesterday evening. The fact that Clan Na Gael play in AFL 3 was to prove no obstacle to Derek team who eventually won by 12 points. It was also great to see Gary Sweeney and Fionn Carney back in action so soon after their heartbreak in Cavan last Saturday. Next up for the intermediates is a repeat of last years last 16 tie against Ballymun Kickhams.
While the Intermediates were steeling the limelight in Parnell Park the second junior team faced the long trip out the Boharnabreena and a JFC D last 16 clash wit St. Anne’s. Again our lads came through with flying colours and as the sun came down on the Dublin mountains Pajos charges came away with a 3 point victory and a place in the quarter finals against St Pats (Palmerstown).
The weekend now sees the football feast return home with three of our four teams in league action up in Broomfield over the weekend.
