Inters qualify for Joy Cup Final with great win over Garda

Joy Cup semi Final Garda 0 - 11 Sylvesters 1 - 12 The Intermediate football had a hard fought win against a fancied Garda team in the Joy Cup semi final.

The game started at a frantic pace and Syls opened the scoring with points from Brian Mc Carthy and a well struck free from Conor Meaney.

To their credit the Guards battled hard and leveled the score 15 minutes into the half. Brian Mc Carthy was proving a handful for the Guards defence and the game took a huge turn 5 minutes from the break when Kevin Clarke's high flighted ball ended up in the Guards net. Immediately after the score Syls were reduced to 14 men when Mark Finnerty received a harsh red card.

Sys entered the break two points up.

The second half commenced with both teams sharing the first two scores. All six Syls defenders, Higgins, Mc Ardle, Peacock, Himmo, Palmer and Shaloe put in a great display of hard hitting defending and limited the Guards attack to long distance efforts. Our midfield of Ja and Conor Meaney took control of the middle which resulted in quick ball to the forwards who duly took their scores. Kevin Clarke and Brian Mc Carthy posed a constant threat to the Guards and Syls ended up running out winners by 4 points. Four subs were introduced; Manix, Collie Burke, Alan Morris and Dave Keogh and all had an

impact on this fine result.

Adult football within the club is flying high at the moment: AFL1 going well in league and still in Championship, AFL3 challenging for league, in Cup Final and still in Championship, AFL7 in Parson Cup semi final, unbeaten in league and still in Championship and MFL1 challenging in league and Championship to come in September.

It should be noted that the youth policy and transition from Juvenile to adult football within the club is thriving with eight of the last nights intermediate team all still U/21 and with the teams performing well to date some credit must be given to the AGC for the structures they put in place at the beginning of the season

Keep it up lads and let's hope it's a successful campaign at the end.
