Inters up to 3rd in AFL3

AFL 3: Ballyboden St Enda's 1-07 St. Sylvester's 0-11 Our Intermediate footballers kept their recent good form in the league going with a hard earned 1pt win out in Ballyboden. Many of the lads playing on Saturday evening would have been involved with the minors a couple of years back when they were piped in the last minute of the MFL 1 final so Saturday's win will have had added significance for these players.

The home side got off to a blistering start with a goal straight from the throw-in which was followed but by a point from a close in free to go four up. From there however we settled down and got into our stride. A point from Philly Daly and couple of frees from Brian McCarthy quickly got us back into it. From there to the break both teams traded scores, with the hosts going in ahead 1-04 to 0-06.

From the re-start it was Syl's turn to get the flying start with Kevin Clarke getting on the end of a pinpoint pass from Kevin O'Flynn to slot over the equalising score. This really was a game between two very well matched sides who both worked very hard but the greater work rate of both Brian & Mark in Midfield and Kev O'Flynn at centre half back seemed to be the telling factor in the game. This trio provided a great platform for our attacks.  Going to the last couple of minutes the sides were level when a the Ballyboden left half back played a seemingly harmless cross field pass only for Kevin Casey to chase down and catch the intended recipient causing him to knock the ball out of play. The resultant line ball was quickly played into Alan Sexton who slotted calmly over the bar for the lead score. Philly Daly quickly added another point to put us 2 up. Ballyboden fought hard to get level but our lads dug really deep to hold on through eight minutes of injury time.
