Inters win again over Vincents

AFL3 St Sylvesters 3-06 St Vincents 1-11 Another fine win keeping our promotion hopes alive. Thanks to Cathal for the reports. This was very much a game of two halves. With a strong wind blowing directly down the pitch from the school end towards the bull ring it was always going to be a case of building a lead and then defending it for the team that ended up playing with the with breeze in the first half.

On this occasion it was the home team that had the honour of playing with this wind during the first period but despite the advantage it was the visitors that started the better with two early points. Phily Daly then struck with two quick goals to turn the game our favour. We dominated the remainder of the half but a combination of wasteful shot selection and poor finishing meant that we were only had a 5pt advantage at the break when it should have been more. Vincent's made better use of the wind in the second half and when they converted a penalty midway through the half they had turned the halftime deficit into a 2pt lead. From there on our lads showed great character get themselves back on top.  About a minute after conceding that penalty Ciaran Roche got himself on the end of a great passing move and coolly slotted home our 3rd goal for the game. He quickly topped this up with 2 points to keep us in front. Vincent's never gave up and with time running out they won a free just inside our 45 in a similar position to ones that their free taker had been kicking over with ease all game and it looked they would get a draw. This time round he miss hit the shot and like Lee Halfpenny's one for the Lions earlier in the day it fell short of the goal. Kevin O'Flynn also made a great interception right at the death just as their full forward was lining up to punch home what would have been a winning goal.  This result capped off a very productive week with the lads coming away with 3 points from two very tuff games. Honorable mentions must got to Max Cassidy, Kevin O'Flynn and John Peacock in defence. Ronan Palmer, Philip Daly and Ciaran Roche in the forward line and have very good games.
