Junior D Championship win - impressive show by Syls

Our fourth team were the first adult football team to take the field in championship this year. The team led by Declan Barnes and Pajo Gallagher made the trip out to Liffey Gaels. 23 players togged out. This is an achievement in itself as the team has numerous injuries at present but very encouraging to see some young players combining well with a few St Sylvester's veterans.

Liffey Gaels 0-8 St Sylvester's 1-14

The first half was an evenly fought battle with Sylvester's playing into a strong breeze. Our full forward line of Barry Mahon, Dave Donoghue and Mark Ryan caused havoc in the oppositions defence. As the half time whistle went both teams were tied at 7 points a piece.

The second half got off to a great start with us racking up three scores in succession all from Mark Ryan frees. Liffey Gaels found it difficult to cope with the forward runs of wing backs Kieran Falvey and Dylan Redmond with the later scoring two great points from play. St Sylvester's continued to dominate throughout and a well worked goal from substitute Paul Clarke helped seal a great victory for us. Would be difficult to pin point a man of the match as overall this was a great team performance. Praise must be given to our defence who kept Gaels to one point in the second half. Players and mentors were also grateful for the support of the few who made the trip across the city to cheer the lads on.
