Junior hurlers keep the run going with C'ship win over Raheny

All six Syls adult teams still in championships in September – Junior D Hurling play-off – -St Sylvester’s 2-13, Raheny 0-11.
A great team performance on Saturday 29 August in St Annes Park saw our second adult hurling team into the quarter-finals of the championship. Raheny looked very impressive when going into a 5 points to nil lead on 11 minutes but a great goal by Cillian O Riordan to the top corner was followed by a point from Barry Cowley and then a second goal from Niall O Connor also to the roof of the net put us in the lead against the run of play. Half time was 2-5 to 0-8 in our favour and for the first 10 minutes of the second half the teams traded points. Strangely, at a crucial time Raheny’s accuracy from placed balls deserted them and Syls edged further ahead. With about 8 minutes to go a full length save by Anthony Dunne denied Raheny a certain goal and that was followed by a courageous Willie Reynolds block. There were many good performances with Mark Healy playing his best hurling of the year and Paul Christie also hurling well. Scorers Niall O Connor 1-5 (4f), Declan Tolster 0-5 (4 frees,65), Cillian O Riordan 1-0, Barry Cowley, Padraig Kennedy and Johnny Conway 0-1 each
