Ladies Win in Leinster Semi

The Ladies Leinster Championship semi final in Broomfield on Sunday afternoon served up an absolute cracker of a game. Played in front of a bumber crowd from both Malahide and Tinahely this game had it all from start to finish. The Syls girls had the best of the early exchanges and led by 2pts. However the Tinahely team was packed with Wicklow County Players and they came roaring back with a goal from 2011 All Star, Lucy Mulhall. The visitors started to take control for a period and finished the 1st half strongly to lead by 2pts at the break

We started to get to grips in midfield early in the 2nd half with Macker & Sinead Tracey driving us forward. Sinead Aherne was in outstaning form kicking points from every angle. Katie Slattery was finding her range kicking some super scores and Macker chipped in with a couple more to get us level. However we were knocked back with another Mulhall goal to as we went into the final 10 minutes. The tension both on an off the field was sky high with both sides pushing hard to the finish. Aimee, Clarkie, Ciara Lynch and Lisa in goal all kept our defence tight and Macker drove us forward again to steal the lead. We notched up a couple of more points to take a 4 point lead as we entered injury time. However a long ball over our defence found Mulhall again to finish for her 3rd goal and we were back to a point game.

The Syls girls are made of tough stuff as Aimee fed Clarkie who spotted Ahern's run and played a super pass over the top to her. Sinead kept her cool and rounded the keeper to finsh to the back of the net. Cue the celebrations, the final whistle blew. What a game and what a win.

The Syls girls now progress to the Leinster Final where they will play St Laurences of Kildare next Sunday, 21st October. Time and venue yet to be confirmed.
