Whether it was the opportunity to finish school early or the desire to represent their school in hurling, I am not sure but over 50 young hurlers turned up to play for their school in the inaugural ‘Malahide Primary Schools Senior Hurling Championship’ sponsored by The Grand Hotel. Panner sent PJP pictures, I think Ernie has some Ollies

This is Pope John Paul 2 NS’s first hurling team and they knew they were going to be in for a tough match against the’ Cumann na mBunscoil Hero’s of Croke Park’ representing St Oliver Plunketts. Ollies struck early as the teamwork and experience gained through their long campaign and many hours of training with Mr Fortune showed. However PJP’s stuck to the task and for long periods of the game there was little difference between the teams.

This game was always going to be a hard task for the fledgling PJP team but they showed huge courage, determination and skill and tried hard right to the very end.

This is only the start for them and this competition, and next year will be a much more competitive engagement. Thanks to Panner for organising, Mr Fortune in Ollies and Mr. Prendergast in PJP for allowing the young players to participate. Matthew Ryan of the Grand Hotel presented the cup to Ollies captain Luke Hughes who gave a rousing speech at the end.
