Record numbers at Mini All Ireland Finals

Regardless of the weather for the preceeding weeks, Syls Mini All Ireland Finals Day always brings out the sun and this year was no exception. Broomfield was resplendent thanks to the efforts of our Sponsor, Audi North Dublin and our hard working committee and was thronged on Sunday afternoon as record numbers of young players took part in our Finals Day.

This is the second year of Audi North Dublin’s sponsorship and they are extremely good to us and ensure that the day is a highpoint for the club in terms of profile and fundraising. While the main part of the event is on the pitch with the finals, the BBQ and bouncy castles add greatly and ensure a fun, family day out.

This year, due to the large numbers we were able to run 2 separate leagues for the Girls, rather than them playing in with the boys. This was a huge success and the number of girls participating more than doubled from last year. In the boys section we had 3 age groups again with large numbers, the U11-12 section alone had 86 players take part on 8 football teams and 44 on 6 hurling teams!

The whole event could not have run so well without the help and organisation of Panner and his referees. I would also like to thank Suzanne Shiels, Carol Morris (Declan and Derek also), Carol Wall, Sue Shalloe, Liz Clarke, Marie McCarthy, Maire Moore and Carol Ryan for running the shop. Patrick Miskelly and Dave Preston for stock, Timmy O’Connor –the man with the van and all the mentors, parents and club members who helped in many ways over the day and indeed the weeks of the matches. Micheal, Gary and Fionn (along with All Ireland and Leinster U21 trophies) represented our males county players, Niamh, Amy, Ann and Sinead represented the Ladies and helped hand out the medals.

But most of all thanks to the young players who gave their all representing their ‘counties’ through this All Ireland series and who made Sunday such a great day.
