MHC C St Sylvesters 3-11 Raheny 1-13 Although 3-11 sounds like a good score the reality was that this win was built on a couple of early goals and some superb defending in the second half into the wind. See Eddie's report and thanks to Eddie, Colm, Martin, Declan and Declan and all the players for a few very enjoyable games, it was great stuff lads, well done. Great support on the line surely helped the lads along as well.

Minor Hurlers Win Championship Final

St Sylvesters 3 -9 Raheny 1-11

Our minor hurlers created history yesterday 27th November 2011 by becoming the first team ever in the club to win a county minor hurling championship. After four hard fought games since September we reached the final.

Raheny opened the score with a point from play, within minutes Thomas Richardson on the run burst through the Raheny defence and struck the sliotar to the back of the net. It was followed by points from play from Dereck Morris and Kevin O’Flynn. Raheny scored the next two from frees before Gareth McGrath with his superb pace and fifty meter solo run delivered goal number two. Two more points were added from Kevin O’Flynn from frees before the dynamic Sean Kane got the ball past the line for goal number three. Raheny scored another three points from frees to make the halftime score 3 – 4 to 0 – 6.

We faced into the second half against the wind, Raheny piled on the pressure, our fullback line of Quinn, Ryan and Kavanagh were immense, David Kennedy in goal was reliable and safe as always. Our half backs Flood , Keogh and McGrath worked tirelessly as did Stephen Cunningham and Kevin O’Flynn in midfield.

We held our seven point margin for most of the second half, the half forward line of Meaney, McLoughney and O’Dwyer settled. Conor Meaney, Stephen Cunningham and Kevin O’Flynn all finding the target. Eoin Costello was introduced at corner forward and won some great ball, There was great support play from Colm Byrne and Dereck Morris. With seven minutes remaining Raheny broke through our defence and the margin was now reduced to three points.

The true character of this team became even more evident as we battled to the end with hard man to man hurling to hold our margin of three, for the final puck of the ball Kevin O’Flynn stood over a 65, drove it over the bar and high into the trees in St Anne’s park to the sound of the final whistle and to rapturous applause and celebration from a fantastic crowd of St Sylvesters supporters.

We would like to thank Raheny for a fantastic sporting game and for your good wishes expressed afterwards.
