Minors 'pipped at the post' for the league title

MFL1 Final Ballyboden St Endas 3-05 St Sylvesters 2-07 What a shame for our fine Minor team, we led from the start and looked for most of the game like we would win our first Div1 title in a long while. We played with a mild but bitter wind in the first half, few nice points , flick by Meaney to Mark Hazely for a nice goal, solo effort from Fionn for a second and we led by 2-03 to 1-01 at the break.

We continued to dominate well into the second half, Scuby was outstanding in the middle and well supported by Kevin O'Flynn, Conor Ryan was sweeping the half back line and Eoin Boyne, Conor Quinn and John Peacock all comfortably holding their men and Brian Shalloe particularly strong coming out of a full line with Danny Greenan and Niall Higgens. Five forwards(snappy looking Gareth McGrath, busy Conor Mullarky (Kevin Lynnett), classy looking Fionn Cahill(Cian McCarthy), always dangerous Conor Meaney and Mark Hazely(Pierce Gibney)) playing into a wind with seven backs was always going to be a tall order. We did get a few good points but when Boden goaled on the break we started to look nervous. We lost Fionn Cahill to a dead leg and with him some of our ball winning ability. Another goal off a broken ball in the square and a pointed free gave them the lead and we couldn't get up the field in strength to level it.

Maybe we could have scored more in the first half, maybe a bit more urgency up front mid second half, hard to say but we were pretty deflated at the end.

Congrats to Boden, I believe they lost both football and hurling championship finals but they didn't lie down today when things were looking bleak for them.
